Dirt 5 sounds like a mess going by that Ars article. Seems like an odd pick for the first Series X press gameplay demo.

Getting bored of the slow tease now. I want to see the Gears 5, FH4 and Sea of Thieves enhancements. Plus The Medium, The Falconeer, Valhalla, Watch Dogs, etc. running on Series X. And then all of this again on Series S, so we can get an idea as to what the extra £200 actually buys.

I think these early games will all be a mess. :p Nearly all are cross-gen so graphics won't be next-gen spectacular and I don't expect (m)any to be using the Velocity Architecture either.

GameSpot have some 4K footage of DiRT 5 on XSX.

And some more of a different map from Press Start. Map load times are way too long so it's a certainty it's not using Xbox Velocity Architecture due to the cross-gen nature of it.

Surprised they keep making Gears games, I seem to recall the original was quite good fun but I played the latest one on PC and it was pretty terrible.

I thought Gears 5 was the second best in the series, after Gears 3. The graphics were pretty amazing - great textures and even greater particle effects. I still think it's better than Halo. :p

Decent looking I guess but find the gameplay really tired. Also not played Halo for years, another geriatric franchise. :)

Ars Technica discusses a preview build of DiRT 5 on Xbox Series X.

In a nutshell, the 120fps mode works well but at a loss to the visual quality and resolution at 1080p. So what the heck is the Series S version going to run at? 720p120?

Well that's incredibly disappointing. It shows how poor the launch titles are if that's all they can showcase. I'm hoping the offerings improve.

I think the Series S 120 option is also at 1080p but its just lower detail. Could be wrong but am sure it was discussed by DF in a recent video with the dev.

Dunno, that sounds to me like you have either a serious console issue or really bad ventilation
Tbh I think I did get a dud xb1x, it has always been louder than my ps4 Pro, I've had a lot of shut downs with overeating messages and the fans always used to ramp up.....good job I traded it in at game then :D

Series X started arriving in some places now. Wonder if anyone will get theirs before November 10th. :p

Digital Foundry provide better analysis of DiRT 5. The 120Hz mode is dynamic resolution with an upper limit of 1440p which it mostly sticks to. There are rare drops to 1080p and very rare drops to 90fps at the lowest.

Shipping to warehouses and retailers has started. Less than a month to go hopefully COVID won’t bugger it all up.....

I feel like we have reached a bit of a plateau with graphics. Not seeing how that is really any better than current gen racing games visuals wise. Bit disappointing that there are still drops below 60fps as well.

Hopefully there will be better tests of this hardware coming out.

I think with DiRT, there are simply too many platforms to cater for. Which means they won’t necessarily use the unique tools available to each. Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox One X, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4, PS4 Pro, PS5, PC, Google Stadia. So it’s like letting each platform brute force everything without special optimisation like Xbox Velocity Architecture or Variable Rate Shading, etc.
