Sooo finally got round to connecting my series x. Had a bit of a faff getting it all set up, had to wipe my Xbox one x then connect my series x, which it wasn’t connecting on my tv. To be fair it’s a 720p screen so I knew I was going to have a few issues. Anyhow got it all set up and then had to redownload my games/apps.
But holy moly this thing is silly quiet  I had to put a disc into the series x in order for it to install and other than hearing the disc spinning it was silent as a mouse.

Anyhow like I said I’m using an old 720p screen for time being until I make a decision on whether to get a monitor or the LG 48” cx tv. Only game I’m playing at the moment is destiny 2 and it super quick at loading up and putting me into activities so mighty impressed with that. It’s not even a series x enhanced title but in a couple of weeks time, there is an update that will give us 60fps and a fov slider. So quite looking forward to those features but I have a couple of questions.

Seeing as I’m using a 720p screen I should still be able to get 60fps?? Or is it physically impossible for such an old screen to output 60fps.
Secondly for quick resume to work I assume the game has to support that feature??

On a final note my Astro A40tr and mixamp sound so much better now lol. I’m using the Dolby app and it sounds immense. Luckily Astro give you a licence for free, well they should if you are spending £250 on a headset. But I think my Xbox one x wasn’t set up properly with the Dolby app on my Astro’s. Still using the inbuilt equaliser settings in the Astros.

yeah, after 2-3 hours of AcV the other night I had to go to my Xbox to make sure it was putting out some sort of heat as it’s so so so so quiet. :p

I replaced the thermal paste on my Xbox One X today ahead of listing it on eBay. I had to play Assassin's Creed Valhalla to test it afterwards and my god, I couldn't never go back. It took an age to load and the lack of smooth framerate was unbearable!

Definitely reaffirmed my decision to get the Series X!

Oh mine is putting out enough heat lol. Which kinda concerns me as my av unit is kinda small and the area I have it in, it was a tight fit...have had to lay it horizontally but I’ve made sure that there is enough space around ie the top and bottom to breathe but it was putting out quite a bit of heat.

Forza Horizon 4 and Gear 5 give it quite the workout!

I'm really enjoying Gears 5 with headphones.

If you download the insider app and join it, there is already a supposed fix for the headset crackle (join the omega test ring - it'll be the only one you can join as a new insider user)

Seems to have fixed the issue, thanks :)

Gears 5 with atmos and headphones with strong bass is absolutely fantastic.

The quick resume is garage for me always crashes call of duty warzone. Wish I could just turn it off.

The whole game DVR system is full of bugs needs a massive update. Just deleted 20 clips then they all reappeared.

Is it worth joining the insider group for quicker updates ?

So Dirt 5 is fun, but boy are there a lot of graphical anomalies. Hopefully they can patch them out and sort the framerate out as well, not a great first go at a next generation game for codemasters!

Just joined the insider app.

Think been in it before got 3 rings to choose from. Stuck to omega I think less problems it's says yet all builds for the each ring looked same version.

How are they doing it on locked firmware?

Xbox allows dev mode so you can do stuff like this. They did last gen as well, it stops people messing with the console hardware. It was a smart move by m$. To avoid people running exploits on games it totally locks out the xbox gaming side while in dev mode. It is all fully legit, the app is on the store and it has a one of fee. It basically allows you to turn the xbox into a mini pc running third party apps.

You have to do a full reboot to enter dev mode and a full reboot to get back to the dash. I had loads of cool stuff running on my one x.

That is awesome, so its like dual boot and I dont lose any existing installed games/data?

As an update on internal storage using cheap WD passport drives, I moved vesperia (circa 30 gig) to internal yesterday and took 7 minutes.

Well i have tried it out, it is clunky.

Steps I followed.

Grabbed dev mode activation from store.
Signed up to dev account (costs £12).
Ran the app to activate on dev account.
Took 3 attempts to activate successfully, but 3rd time lucky.
App then told me to wait for a update to download, which never did.
There is a hidden dev menu on console you can activate on the console info screen which I did.
From there I enabled developer mode and rebooted it.
It took eight minutes to reboot, thought I bricked it.
Then from there I had to configure wifi again in settings, and added my account.
I was able to via the web page portal to upload retroarch, but this is really clunky and it kpept getting stuck and when it did work I forgot to add the library dependencies. So I uninstalled it.
Couldnt reinstall, it was getting very scuffed in web UI as well so rebooted it.
Took another three minutes to reboot.
This time i was able to properly install retroarch and it launched fine, at this point test was done, didnt bother with any games.
Selected leave dev mode to go back into retail mode and this took another 3-5 mins.
After back in retail mode I did a manual reboot, and thankfully was fast. So I havent destined my console to 5+ minute bootup's in retail mode.

With all this done I have observed 24 gig space is now used extra on internal storage, so there is a 24 gig internal storage tax to using dev mode, I expect the slow bootups might be some moving data around on a new partition or something.

Apparently to remove dev mode you have to factory reset. So I am stuck with this 24 gig usage now unless I am prepared to factory reset. However if I get round to installing games on to retroarch I would maybe consider it worth it. Currently I have retropie for emulation, which works ok. But can struggle in heavier games, and adds more cabling mess with it been another device.
