Xbox Series X to PS5

I don't think you would regret trying. Even if you play the exclusives and go back. That's what it's about for me.

I'd buy another ps5 tomorrow if Bloodborne 2 came out. Coil whine was bad on mine and the huge GT7 delay meant it collected dust so sold it.

I've gone pc/one X/ series S this gen now.

I have both, and I use my PS5 much more. Played a lot of exclusives and in general I prefer the UI and general user experience, but it’s down to personal preference.

On Xbox, I also don’t like how you have to disable external connections in system settings to fully disable crossplay on games like call of duty. PlayStation is much better for CoD for me. I also get really slow download speeds on my SX.

My ps5 is pretty quiet other than a bit of coil whine. Folks who are saying the ps5 fan is super noisy may have overheating issues? Downloads are super quick on Wi-Fi (550 Mbps FTTP on Wi-Fi 6).

Overall they are both great consoles but ps5 has much more to offer in the exclusives category. If you don’t care about the exclusives catalogue on ps5 then stick with your SX.

The controllers on the ps5 are ok, but the full potential of the dual sense is rarely used. For me they have been the weakest part, having binned 3 due to stick drift.

I doubt you would be disappointed with a ps5 but it isn’t going to really do anything SX isn’t able to do. Only main draws for PS5 are exclusives and VR potential. I personally also prefer my ps plus sub games over stuff on Gamepass and gold, but again that is just personal preference.

The PS5 is slightly less powerful than the series X, but that doesn't seem to materialise in games which suggests the series X is under utilised. Playstation 5 seems to be a good move for their exclusives which generally seem to be good quality.

Games are rather pricy though, least you get Game Pass on xbox, Playstation has PS+ but I don't think that's anywhere near as good?

The PlayStation equivalent is as good, if not better

I have a Series X and aPS5 digital, play on the Xbox much more, only have Horizon, Last of Us and God of War because they a exclusives but only probably 3 hours total on them.

I have both also, play series x more, and think game pass ultimate sub is better than ps +, I mean you get day 1 exclusives.
I do however think most of the exclusives on ps5 are very good and seem to get the best out of the ps5.

Xbox has been a bit of let down on the exclusive front so far this gen personally, not to say there hasn’t been any good ones but they don’t seem to showcase the Xbox capabilities, Starfield for example feels like a last gen game.

Where as PS has some big hitters like god of war, Horizon, and the upcoming and Spider-Man 2 that looks like it really showcases the ps5 performance.

I currently only play my PS5 when there is an exclusive I want to play, Spider-Man 2 will be the next one.

The new version of Dead space is coming to Game pass on the 26th October 2023! On Series X.

Got a X and PS5 - much prefer the PS5

Find the UI much better, the exclusives and for some reason the download speed for me is also much faster.

How do you see the download speed, when downloading I just get the progress bar and how much has downloaded/to be downloaded, never seen the actual mbps like on series x.

Having had both (and sold both), if I was to get either again being that there isn’t much in it, I’d get PS5.

Gamepass is only good value if you’re playing the games on there to make it worthwhile. Although I suspect that now COD will be part of GPU, Xbox will see significant sales going forward.

Also find that the sales are a lot better on the PS store than on the Xbox one.

Dam, I only just bought that in the most recent steam sale  . I only have a ps5 and a series s, and I do wish I'd gone for the beefier x at times (although my TV stand might collapse with both that and a ps5 on the same shelf:cry:).

You can also go into settings and test your connection. The console does a speed test by downloading and uploading data.

My PS5 is connected on Wi-Fi 6 (same as my Series X) but is fully utilising my FTTP fibre optic line. The Series X, however, won’t go above ~50Mbps downloads. It will often start at over 250Mbps but then throttles right down again within around 10-20 seconds. Often it spends extended periods sitting sub 10Mbps and even drops to Kbps too. It never used to be like this, and seems to have coincided with a system update maybe 18 months - 2 years ago.

I’ve tried everything to fix it but no dice. I’ve done a factory reset, I’ve used a different router, and I’ve even changed from standard FTTC broadband to FTTP with a completely new supplier and completely new wiring infrastructure and router. I’ve changed DNS settings, I’ve opened ports on the router, I’ve done a factory reset on 4 different routers with two different ISP’s. I’ve tried running it 5ghz only and 2.4Ghz only. I’ve spoken to my ISP’s and they haven’t been able to help either. I’ve tinkered with all the system settings and tried every fix I can find online bar physically wiring it in with an ethernet cable as I don’t have one long enough and it would look a mess anyway. Everything else in the house works fine except the Series X.

The Series X WI-FI remains dog slow. Plenty of people posting on Microsoft help pages about slow downloads on Series X, but it doesn’t seem to affect everyone and MS are not acknowledging the problem. Of course there’s also the “I’m alright Jacks” on here that maintain it’s an issue on my end because their downloads work just fine on their Series X so it couldn’t possibly be an issue with the product or MS infrastructure!

Granted, it could be my Series X WI-FI chip is borked. But if that was the case I’d expect it to not work at all. Having completely overhauled my internet service and infrastructure without any noticeable difference in performance also feels to me like it is unlikely to be an issue on my end, particularly when all other internet devices operate fine. Very much seems to be a a Microsoft system issue that is throttling speeds for some reason. Perhaps it’s because I don’t have a big data centre near me in the staffs moorlands or something?

So yeah, being able to download a full game, depending on size, in 15-25 minutes is a massive bonus on the PS5. With the Series X I need to plan it in advance as it’s taking around 12-16hrs to download a full fat game (80-100GB) - and that is with all running apps games closed and no other load on my broadband. It makes it a chore. It shouldn’t be this hard to get a console to download at reasonable speeds. I accept it doesn’t have WI-FI 6 capability but it shouldn’t really mean the speeds are so low. And in any case they were low on the previous ISP / hardware / settings that were only WI-FI 5.

Wow, that would be frustrating. For fear of being one of the "I'm all right jack" people you mention, my Series X downloads games at about twice the speed of my PS5. But neither are slow. All my friends have a similar experience. Heck ,even my original Switch, which is notorious for having bad wifi, will download games faster than your Series X !

The good news being, it will work on the Series S too!

I think its a limit on their server side. Or their networking tech in the consoles. The Series X.

I use Ethernet. Keeps the Series X stable.

But even with Ethernet for both PS5 and Series X. The PS5 wins for downloads. Its like the servers are throttled by Microsoft.

Thanks, yeah series x download speeds vary I find as well, I’m on WiFi and get around 150-200 when it’s going well. I have a 500mbps line. Generally it takes about 1hr 30 for a large game to download, so not bad. Not downloaded as much on ps5 so can’t remember the differences in speed.

I know via cable I would get better, but I do think Xbox throttles the speed sometimes.
