Xbox360 E74 error

Re: my E74 error post from earlier.

I have found that if I unplug the AV cable from the back and then start it I get no red rings, does this mean it's the cable??

Need to know soon because over the weekend I will be inducing the 3 red rings to try get my 360 replaced under the 3 yr warranty.

So much for my x-clamp replacement attempted, mines just gone back t E74, well I got about 10 days out of it.

Can happen, but it's nothing to worry about.

If you are feeling particularily lazy, fire the casing off, disconnect the fan and hook the machine back up. Power it on and leave it. Eventually it will give just 2 red quadrants. Pull the power plug (machine won't power off on the button) and let it cool for 20 minutes to half an hour. Hook everything back up and it 'should' fire up no bother.

The chances are though that with it failing so soon after, the fix hasn't been done just quite right. You might be worth after letting the machine overheat just double checking the heatsink screws again.

All the best with it anyway, and I hope it failing again doesn't put you off. I know it shouldn't fail at all, but to be honest, the DIY aspect of it I actually quite enjoy :).

I don't seem to be having ANY luck.

X-Clamp is fitted, turned on and i still get sound but no image. I left the fan off the cpu, it over heated and i cooled it for 30mins, still wont work. :(

Only thing i didn't do is the ovan thing.!

What did you guys use to get the paste off the cpus and heatsinks? I found it very stubborn, couldnt get every last bit off, maybe this is a factor.

Hi mate, I've just replied to your e-mail :). Having now read this post, I would suggest you haven't quite got the cores and the heatsinks cleaned up right, and that would suggest why when you tried the overheating trick, it overheated too fast.

Personally, I've used the Akasa TIM Cleaner and it works a treat. I then use Arctic Silver 5 for new compound.

Well, the cpu overheated fast without no fans. The GPU wouldn't overheat at all! Dont know why!.

I put it in the ovan for 2minutes, (was scared and had no tin foil!!) Re-fitted the x-clamp and thermal paste, still no joy.

Only thing left is 4mins in the ovan with tin foil!:(

Update, i can get an image via component fine, would this suggest a faulty lead instead of a faulty console?

Surely the console is fine if its outputting the image / sound normal when i connect the tv via component?

Try doing a video mode reset (as the console starts, press and hold the Y button, and then pull the right trigger at the same time).

Sorry to bump an old thread, but im still not having any luck with my 360.

X-clamp had been fitted etc (i ovan baked it but i didnt do it for very long as i didnt have any foil! )

The 360 works 100% fine through componant, no issues anywhere. The only problem is when i connect it via the scart. There is sound but no picture.

Now my PC mind tells me that this just can't be the console as its working fine though componant.

What do you guys think? Should i still ovan bake it for 3minutes with foil, or try a new lead?

Is my 360GPU still borked even though its working through componant?

Thanks! (Want to play the free xbox live)

I think E74 is covered by 3 yr warranty now. Have you already voided the warranty?

The website says there is no warrenty left.

I'm just wondering if this sounds like it has E74 or just a faulty cable? Are you sure its an E74 considering that the 360 runs fine through componant? Surely if the GPU was shot it wouldn't display anything through any feed.

if it working fine though componant then i`d say its the lead or the scart socket
