XCOM : Enemy Unknown - by Firaxis Games - Thread

silly question, but how do i capture aliens.
Well to collect their body's in tact for research just make sure you don't kill them with any kind of explosion. If you are talking about getting one alive to be put in containment you need to complete the research for the weapon that stuns them.

Equip the weapon to one of you're team. Then get in range which will be shown when you are playing, and use it like any other attack. At the end of the mission you will automaticly collect the alien body.

The arc thrower, initially can only do living things (ie not drones) and has to be under 3health bars. You can do two upgrades in the foundry, one to increase power and one on to make it work on drones, only just done those upgrades and haven't tried it out yet.

That's another thing which annoys me with this game, is it me, or is there no way to get stats on equipment unless you build/capture it and go to the load out screen. Why doesn't it have the stats in the research archive.

Still I really hope they make another. Because well I've spent the last 2 and a bit days addicted to it, as there are clear improvements they can make, to make it even more epic.

Don't capture to many alive though, although you get the weapons which cuts down on expensive build. You don't collect weapon fragments which are essential for research and some constructions.

What the heck are the spider things that turn my guys into zombies

I was rocking along having lost only one trooper to this point then had my team of 5 decimated in 3 turns
Any tips?

Theres bound to be DLC and addons if Civ5's content is anything to go by. The waiting game begins :D

Crysallids are evil things, they not only move incredibly fast and far they also hit very hard until you can get decent armour with chitin plating.

Best tactic i've found against them is a bring along a high rank, well equipped sniper.

A sniper with laser weapons and double tap can easily one shot 2 crysallids in a single turn.

Get a plasma sniper rifle and you can one shot muton berserkers :)

Lets hope so. However I did find a lot of the Civ5 DLC pointless, and it seemed annoyingly like stuff they could have easily included but left out purposely to release as DLC. Not that I've tried the latest large DLC.

Game arrived today. I thought I'd at least install it, turns out it can't even be installed, becuase it hasn't been released...

Cue a look of puzzlement as I consider the boxed copy of the game on my desk. *Looks released to me.* ;)

Staggered release dates... The sooner the high street stores are given the finger by the likes of Steam, the better. :p

It makes a change that a game has a level of difficulty, and some genuine decision making requirements. I find it hard to continue a game if I lose some of my best troops for example, so Im spending the time to position them tactically etc.

Enjoying it so far :_)

I've started another game, sticking with classic ironman, the difficulty is just right for me. Put my base in Asia this time (went with the US first time) and I'm enjoying the upgrades from the Officer School for half price. :)

I think on my first play through whenever a research project or engineering project came up that was a *** priority *** I went for it immediately. This advances the storyline / plot so I felt quite rushed all the way through, always a little behind the technology curve etc.

This time I'll take it slow and steady, with a lot more emphasis on capture rather than going crazy with 6 rockets and a load of grenades per deployment lol.

As a few have said, this game has so much potential, I really hope they expand on it massively in a sequel which must be on the cards if it sells well.

I would really recommend ironman for those on the fence about it, sure its painful losing a great soldier, but thats a big part of the game in my opinion. I will never forget how Ben Richards was beaten to a pulp by a berserker, or John Matrix was mind controlled and put down by my own men, or Ellen Ripley was turned into a zombie (a heavily armored one at that!)

My favourite death was when Alan "Dutch" Schaefer took out Bruce "Batman" Wayne with a stray rocket..."shots wide!"

Yeah no ****, their goes my best assault specialist who had just run+gun'ed :D

I think your wrong :D
Snow nuts is just a direct copy with little added on. Xcom bring its upto date, it just needs a few teaks.

Anyway game crashed (first time, just froze on alien activity) just as I was doing really well on a mission, back to the start :(

downloading now, got a night shift to do then it should be unlocked!!!!!

Glad i'm on nights this week to be honest otherwise id be staying up all night to play, this way I get to see it without ruining my sleep pattern :)

Well, first casualty on the new game, nothing more disappointing than an Assault run+gun, 93% chance to hit....MISS!

Cue getting a plasma bolt critical hit in the face.

RIP Frank "Beret" Spencer.

Payback was dished out by Jeremy Kyle, who has now earned a nickname. What to choose...Ah, DNA-Test.
