XCOM : Enemy Unknown - by Firaxis Games - Thread

looks a whole lot more cartoony than the gritty visuals of the original. personally that style doesn't appeal to me as much.

I'm not sure if I'd describe the original graphics as gritty though...

I personally can't wait for this. I loved the origanl series, including TFTD and Apocalypse. I'm aware that it isn't a faithful adaptation, but things move on, I'm sure it'll be just as enjoyable. And those who aren't keen on the "glam cam" as being detrimental to the original style, I read that it can be turned off ;-)

Yeah I guess you're right. But this new one looks a lot more... comical, which the original games never were.

We can all remember this scene: a pile of XCom soliders lying on their backs, covered in blood, civvies screaming and Cyberdiscs floating over destroyed houses...

This new one, goes beyond the (slightly) comic book look of the original, and almost enters a kind of slapstick comical look. Not keen on it.

I know but they were working with limited technology but they were still airing on the side of 'realistic', particularly the colour palette.

This new version just seems a bit comic and that worries me!

I placed my pre order in March. "We" have been nagging for a remake for years, it'd be wrong not to get it!

I wonder how many orders for the other FPS version were cancelled when this was announced? Mine was!

I pre-ordered this. I'm not bothered about the art style. The original prolly looked gritty because of the tiny 320x256 resolution and 16/32 on screen colours.

We have Xenonauts for a remake of the original. Which I also backed the Kickstarter when it was running.

Wait, you're about to pre-order and yet you don't even know the genre?

Crazy!

what a silly comment, especially after what happened with syndicate!

I wanted to make sure that they handed suddenly decided to turn this into a 3 min rainbow six troop placement system and then run and gun down the aliens.

How far along is the pre-order build at the moment? Is it still the same Alpha demo that was offered up while the Kickstarter was running?

Quite a few updates but still not a complete game hence I've stepped way until the Beta arrives, that's only a few weeks away!
