XCOM : Enemy Unknown - by Firaxis Games - Thread

The shotguns are just useless.

Well racked nip 7hrs today , must resit going back on tonight.

My thoughts are, awesome but hard game.
Not quite as good as the original for two reasons, you can't assign points, the skill tree is very limited and team sizes. However the cut scenes for the kills are quality.

Edit - make that three things, the fact you can equip **** all compared to the old games.

I love the special abilities, I just wish we still had points for the accuracy, will, strength etc.

Why do modern games dumb it down?

That sounds about right for the original from memory...

I can remember some of my squad a few levels along on the original still barely managing to hit a barn door, with a shot gun, when they were standing with their nose pressed against it.

One thing that annoys me about the demo, and I don't know if it's in the game proper, but...

At several points the aliens seemed to shoot *though* a wall.
I just had this happen to me:

$ = soldier, @ = alien, ===|^^|=== is a door in a wall.

Theoretically, the solider is not only in full cover, but is *out of sight* of the alien. Yet the alien shoots and kills the soldier, and the animation shows the line of fire going through the side of the building.

Watching OldManDagerr's stream on TwitchTV and it's still present in the final version.

Can only hope they patch it pretty soon.

Well the thing is, I'm not sure if it's a bug or a design choice. It seems to me, that the game considers all our units to be continually sticking their heads around corners, and thus fair game to be shot at, even when they should be unseen.

Hows the music like in this game? It's games like this that if the music is done right it can really build up the tension when you send in a soldier through a doorway to somewhere that could be filled with hostiles.

Trouble is it doesn't really add anything either. Ultimate game would be a hybrid.
Xcom enemy unkowen, how it is, Exocept skill points, bigger squads and what you can carry,

Will Xcom support modding? or is that something that was ruled out, could be great if they added workshop support and people added stuff like more skill points etc in.

I'm loving the game so far, it is a little on rails but the action points are spot on and tactics work very nicely. Like the music as well. Had one battle go wrong and was down to my star player (the wife as it happens) she survived - felt a very sweet moment.

It's usually 6pm or 7pm :(

Oh crap, is it really that late in the day? I've got Friday off work and was hoping to spend the day playing.. :(

I realise they have to match the date that its released in shops but I could walk into one Friday morning and buy a copy if I hadn't pre-loaded on steam.

Pretty sure it's usually that time, I'll let someone else correct me. I think it's because valve are us based so works around their day than ours.

I think the game is a steam works game - if it is then even if you get a copy you won't be able to play it till unlock
