XCOM : Enemy Unknown - by Firaxis Games - Thread

i cant figure the optimum progression in this when i focus on reasearch i lack resources focus on cash and resources im left behind technologically. almost feels like this game should linger in the early stages a bit longer it escalates so fast it kills me, didnt expect that on normal.

Yeah I was having issues with alloys, but since Its upped to big ships have plenty of alloys, Satelites are essential for money, but what I'm struggling with is a sever lack of weapon fragments. Which means no stunning stuff for free weapons, unless its an alien I haven't stunned before.

The other question is, once a country leaves xcom, is there anyway to get them back.

You use to just go attack the base the aliens had built, but as far as I can tell, there's nothing like that.

It is strange, because most games, even civ, is a war of attrition where even if you take a knock you can recover. This game feels like every defeat makes success impossible. its like an RPG that resets your level on a lost battle, crazy hard

Loving this so far but I've found it keep loosing guys so I end up loading a save game. Is this what km meant to be doing or should I be ignoring my deaths and just hiring more guys to feed the aliens? Never played any of the xcom series before this one.

Ironman or gtfo :p

Is anyone else just an overwatch fiend? Get snipers into position as well as my assaults and heavy then use support to flush things out using smoke for cover if required. Overwatch has made this game fairly easy at times.

For instance I'm currently on a mission where 2 Chrysallids (SP?) and 2 thin men got taken out in 1 of the enemies movement phases... was highly amusing but still...

I also load a save game if I have lost a guy but will be playing ironman the second time around :) Once I know what to expect as I'm buggered if I am getting near late game then something new pops out and buggers my save game.

Im on my 3rd restart at the moment but doing the best out of all of them so far. I too am addicted to my soldiers and keep reloading when i lose one :)

The comment above about completing the game in 16hours is quite concerning...

I was so tempted to unlock this last night, but i knew as soon as i did i would be up till god knows what time.

Thankfully Dota 2 is keeping my mind occupied until friday!

Has anyone managed to research / discover a replacement for the rocket launcher? I'm guessing it would be the Blaster Launcher from the original game, but I never found an upgrade on my playthrough.

I'm sure there is one, it would make heavies even more useful, as they were doing 16 damage per shot with the rocket launcher on robotic enemies (great for killing cyberdiscs with the 2 accompanying drones). I wonder how much more powerful the upgrade would be?
