XCOM : Enemy Unknown - by Firaxis Games - Thread

A few countries leaving the council just means your resources aren't stretched to the limit, so I wouldn't bother about it too much.

Ah fair enough, I won't worry about loosing a few. I think the issue I have with it really is that there doesn't seem to be a way to stop it happening. I could understand it if I was failing missions or not picking thoese where panic was high.

Its likely impossible to do, think of it like finishing an FPS without being hit. Technically, some how, there might be a way. But its not the point of the game.

Why does this game have the feel of a free title ? the customization and weapons etc are so shallow ? what a missed opportunity this was

Not sure I'd agree free but yes the unit customisation is so shallow and limited.

Got jumped by a crysalid terror attack and egypt leaving the program just about a week after my first monthly review/paycheck, wiping out my 4 most experienced guys like ragdolls (but by experienced, I mean they've had maybe 2 experience upgrades).

Thought it was a bit harsh :D

Will have another crack at it soon. I liked the original games but never bothered playing them to death as many have (inventory management? what? I must have overlooked that element), so I like this reboot a lot at the moment, just struggling a bit with some decisions that too easily make/break my progress.

It was kinda like that in the original, even with total global domination, shooting down and killing everything that moved with 100% success alien bases appeared and countries left. Always thought it would be one of the major things they improved upon.

The secret to doing well in the original was to save often and have plenty of saves.

just had a ridicously hard battle with my full on experiences squad(named after family members) up against a very difficult abduction

ended up with my team facing off against 8 mutons in a petrol station and my poor family being wiped out in front of me our rabbit ended up on his own but valiantly took down 3 of them before being ambushed as he reloaded :(

Once ive finshed this game there will be no need for me to go back to it,pretty crap really for a full price game,ah well Extraterrestrials 2 comes out soon.

I still think they should kickstart a remake of the original and keep much of the same style and tense gameplay.

I would back the hell out of that.

Okay... Thought I was getting good and schooling Mutons, then they taught me a harsh lesson about high ground.

Right then... Next campaign. Good job I'm enjoying this. :D

I do need to find a way to keep my snipers from dying though.

Only played a couple of hours so far and I, well, feel disappointed.

The game feels dumbed down, the interface feels clunky/buggy and like others have said some of the clones were better.

And why does it take 3 clicks to get to the soldiers equipment load screen? When there are 5+ soldiers it becomes so repetitive. Whatever happened to UI testing.

Played this for a few hours today - disappointed really, as a huge fan of the original and Apocalypse it just feels like they have dumbed it down far too much. I feel like I have little control of my men, like telling them to pick stuff up, shoot at walls and go prone :(

I like the ant hill base and watching all the guys go about their daily business but hate, with a passion the movie parts that drive the game forward when you do some research - just give me the screen. In the original my imagination did all this for me and it was way better than what they have made!!

Also the game is far to B movie cheesy, the original was far darker and menacing!

Finally what's going on with the research engineering side of the game? I see there is a grey market but its so limited it is a joke. In the original I would have several bases with nothing but workshops and engineers pumping out laser rifles to self fund my economy but in this it seems to have gone? Am I wrong on this?
