Does this game use steam cloud to sync your saves? It might copy them over for you.

how do the bomb missions ? I have failed everyone!

How? They're the easiest missions.

Walk over to the side of the glowing things and left click. It deactivates and give you an extra turn to get to the bomb. Just keep moving forward, it's usually only skinies and only a slim map, so can send troops down the whole map and target nodes at the same time.

You can't be too cautious because of the turn limit before the bomb explodes.
Try to find and make use of the nodes to give you more time.
Once you've found the bomb, only send one or two in to close cover and disarm the bomb, set the rest up in good overwatch positions, preferably on high, to cover the aliens that drop in after you've deactivated it.

That anti-cheat mod is sublime. I feel it makes the game feel much more complete and gives it that difficulty level between Classic and Medium it sorely needed (Medium being too easy and Classic being to infuriating for me). I very much like the idea of being able to intercept the UFOs too.

The patch has messed the game up for me the enemy in every map just comes to me now I can just sit still and they all come looking

I can't quite work out how the map layout and graphical glitches for the abduction ship levels made it through QA/playtesting. It's awful.

Heavies seem to be pretty pointless. Even with the best LMG in the game they can't hit the broad side of a barn.

Assaults loaded up with the alloy shotgun rule however. Blowing away everything in their paths. If only they had double tap, they could down a sectopod in a single round.

I find heavies a joy. I was rolling with 3 at one point and it was pretty wild. Even in early game, rockets and suppression can dig you out of some serious holes, which is just as well as all my Assault troopers keep getting killed. I have a serious shortage of them. :(

Currently, Colonel John 'First Blood' Rambo is my top dog heavy with an outrageous number of kills. Trouble is he's been wounded too many times and I suspect he may go ape in the later missions. :D

Love Assualts but I have a hard time keeping them aliev, they always to seem to agro more alien packs when charging forward to do their shotgun thing, Ive been forced to equip them with rifles for the time being :(. Maybe Im not using them right.

A low damage hit is better than a miss, so use their pistols at long range :)

Heavies are all about supression, that ability can turn a worrying moment to your favor hugely. I've managed to supress up to three mutons with one heavy quite often, as a result all three have their accuracy nerfed and if any of them move in the next turn its a free overwatch. Also the double overwatch ability that heavies have is excellent.

Oh... and rocket launchers.

In terms of keeping assault alive, towards the end game I found assault was better suited to defending your front line than 'storming the gates' as it were. Everyone needed to move forward together in a (widely spaced!) group. Assault would take up the front line, with their 'free overwatch if an enemy steps within four grid squares' ability, they can fend off even some of the more aggressive melee attack attempts by the aliens. For me, those moments where a berzerker or a chrisalid would storm your front lines and cause chaos became a thing of the past, two assaults getting a free overwatch on them and any other overwatch you happened to have set up would tend to kill them before they got close.

How do you manage that without reloading? A single suppression costs more than 1/2 a clip... so?

I've yet to use suppression, always going for the skill that lets you perform an action and then shoot. Being able to shoot twice/shoot then overwatch/move then overwatch/shoot then reload/move and shoot etc seems too valuable to pass up.

My core team has two heavies, each with 3 rockets at their disposal and the robot killing skill. Combined with the sniper motion detectors, groups of enemies are often dead or horribly wounded before they see us coming :)

Those skills are different tiers, so you can have both.

There's a skill that expands the suppression radius, and you can also research ammo conservation

Actually what is suppression radius? I thought suppression was a single-target ability?

Rocket radius is obvious, suppress radius not so obvious..
