Xfactor viewer mentality

For those getting defensive about the simpleton comment. I said 'from experience' meaning folk I've overheard, colleagues, the public and so forth who talk about it constantly and follow avidly are generally rather dim. That's not to say everyone who watches it is. I watched it on Saturday!

It's interesting to hear personal experiences of people who've been to the live auditions and so on! You know it's fake but you don't realise the extent!

Out of all the guys on last nights show, I couldn't honestly tell you which were gay and which were straight  They were all dressed like they'd walked straight out of JLS.

So are we to classify anything that comes on tv as tv? Ok. I'll remember to use the correct term in future, thank you for educating me.

That's how live shows have always been done.
They have a warm up act and during the show people at the front tell you what to do - absolutely nothing has changed.
It is a step up from canned laughter though.

Why should this matter?
Would you prefer if they wore t-shirts saying 'I'm not as confused as shifty_uk'?

It's just exploitation, look at that McElderry bloke he got dropped like a sack of spuds when Cowell realized he wouldn't make much money off him.

You can usually tell who they want you to 'fall in love with' and vote for by the long emotive intro before they blow everyone away with their autotuning.

You seem to get awfully defensive about this xfactor stuff dmpoole. Something you're not telling us? Has your band tried to get on the show?

Then you are watching TV.
I just so happen to be watching Swansea V Stoke live from Albania but 99% of my viewing is stuff I downloaded (even X-Factor) and I'm under no illusion I'm still watching TV.

i think the difference is with downloading stuff you tend to watch more of a few things (ie whole season in a row) and rarely watch something "current" just because it's on, there's no channel hopping and watching something you haven't explicitly searched for.

it's funny. So many comments about the show and yet so few about the actual music.

I don't go out my way to watch it but if it's on I will. They over-produce all the sob stories and reactions etc. Some people buy into it some don't what's the problem? Remember this is from a generation of TV that brought us Big Brother and The Only Way is Essex. If you don't like it don't watch. Simples.

Immediately categorizing everyone who watches it as an idiot says more about you than them really. I like music, actually like is probably quite an understatement. While some of it on the x factor is crap some of it is genuinely good. Just watched some guy turn a terrible pop song (Cheryl Cole number I believe) into a decent listenable piece of music. stripped back, acoustic and actually sung in tune.

You can't possibly know every persons motivations and reasons for watching so why try to generalize about every person that does?

Aye, a bit different to the guy earlier who feels that he is forced to watch X-Factor because there is nothing else on at the same time, as if he somehow cannot leave the TV alone.

For every season of x factor, big brother i'm a celebrity etc that gets produced a series that might have been good or interested is canned or never started.

What you mean is a series that YOU think might have been good or interesting is canned? TV companies have always made shows that appeal to the greatest number of people, whats suddenly changed?

And are you saying that X factor stops good TV? There are loads of thread in the TV, Music and Books sub forums with multitudes of good TV programs both past and present.

I haven't got a good enough sob story and I can't cry on demand and even though I've been doing it semi-professionally for 41 years, music (said in a Scouse accent for better effect) "Isn't me life" and "I don't know what I'll do if you don't put me through".

I watch American, UK and Australian X-Factors.
I watch American, UK and Australian Got Talents.
I've watched all the American & UK Idols.
I've caught the odd Dutch & Indian X-Factors or whatever they're called.
I personally think the programs are hilarious and entertaining.
I am fully aware that 'spotters' are outside looking for 'potentials' and 'idiots' and that's why you see them interviewing them before they go on stage otherwise they will need to interview upwards of 30,000 people at every show.
I am fully aware that the panel know what is coming and some questions are 'scripted'.
I am fully aware that the audience is prepped and have to abide by Cowell rules.
I get bored after the early stages and all the idiots have gone home.
I'm also aware that there are people like my 75 year old Mother who perhaps doesn't know how scripted it is.
I am also aware that people on high horses like to go on forums and call anybody who watches something they don't watch a simpleton.
I don't GAF what anybody watches personally because I like to watch 1000s of documentaries which I know most people would find boring.

I watched it this morning, it should be renamed 'The Crying Factor' - why is everyone crying all the time? Opulent, spoilt, middle-class little brats on some fanciful holiday in the sun because they can 'sing'.

Pile of arse.

Do not get me started on that show, the fact that some of the actors on that show earn £150K+ a year depresses me.
