Its a cut down xfi card

Can anyone say why it does not work so well with games, would it not be compatible with bf2 for example?

Ive gone from an Audigy 2 to a X-Fi XtremeGamer (£56ish)

I can tell the difference, and a bug with Eve and SB cards has been fixed

Now got compatibility issues with DS3 onboard and the X-Fi

I was thinking of getting a new X-Fi Gamer card to replace my Audigy Player but I have a DS-3 Conroe set up too. Can you please tell me more about this compatibility issue?

I would not run the on board sound as well as a soundcard.

Never run the OB sound and a sound card at the same time, also make sure you have removed any previous sound drivers ( run driver cleaner in safe mode) and its worth running a registry cleaner just to check.

Occasionally when the computer is booted up, it forgets the x-fi is there, detects a multimedia card but cant install it

A reboot fixes that, but thats just me wanting to run both at same time. If you disable the onboard its fine.

Its hard to explain the differences. Ive got a Creative 5.1 kit, quite old, and the sounds are just clearer and thats just playing music etc. My speakers arent setup for full surround sound yet so Ive not tested the games, but i can still hear the clarity difference

Quick note, dont get the latest drivers...it forces the centre speaker through the sub for some reason

Yeah ive turned mine off but still had a issue with the drivers, i was messing with it too much trying to sort the centre speaker out, opt'd for 4.1 now :(

Ill have to stick my old SB live in and see if that works as well

had a x-fi music and couldnt get my other system to boot when it was installed and removed it
have a audigy4 at moment and looking to get a better sound card
looking at x-med 7.1 card and maybe a x-fi fatal1y gamer card

It supports EAX but only in software, only allows 64 voices instead of 128 and no AISO support either. This chart on Creative's website shows a comparison of the features of their X-Fi range :

Why not?

I run vent/teamspeak chat through the onboard and a headset and everything else through my Sound Blaster and normal speakers. It works fine and has done for a long time on multiple PCs.

wont these x-fi be old when creative bring out the x-fi2 versions this year to support vista
They'll still sound just as good, it's not as if there is a self destruct mechanism built in programmed to the new product's launch date!
