XL BIG, BLACK AND BACK!!!! FOR ONLY £9.99 (Limited Time Only)

Did anyone else have issues with the packaging or lack of it?

Mine was delivered by royal mail today and i paid about £6 for 2nd class delivery. There was no packaging, the tube just had a royal mail postage sticker on it and some parcel tape wrapped round one bit (no idea what the tape is for)

The mat is ok, but one of the ends of the tube was missing and the tube is quite dented in various places. If i had bought this as a gift for someone i could not have given it to them in this condition - it looks worse than 2nd hand :(

Overall for £6 i'd have expected some packaging to protect it, even if it is only a large mouse mat.

One end of the tube is the lid. Hence why they have to tape around the lid join to stop it falling off. :)

Mine came packed exactly the same. No issues here. I'm sorry you're not happy with the way it was packaged. Please post in customer services and I'm sure someone from the shop will respond promptly. :)

it just has to turn up tomorrow, i even tidied my desk in anticipation!

After the comments regarding the VERY poor packaging, im starting to worry mine has been wrecked in the mail :(

The tube itself is extremely sturdy. It's just the end caps people are reporting popping out, but as the mat is coiled up rather securely inside it should be fine. OcUK should take note and start taping up the ends, though.

It needs to be in something, not just taped up. I think the item should arrive in a condition suitable for giving as a gift and that means not covered in tape :)

The manufacturers packaging is to protect it when displayed on a shelf in a shop - not for being dropped in a post box and transported 1/2 way across the country.

I'd agree with that.

Well I bought the mouse and mat bundle so mine came in a large cardboard box. But packaging wise it isn't really viable for OcUK to box the tube itself up, boxes that size are non standard so they'd either have to use larger boxes (Which are more expensive to ship) or spend ages cutting boxes to the correct size. From a business perspective, if something is already in a very solid tube, it isn't economical to box it up as well.

Although I agree with this in the case of other products, the packaging it comes with is really sturdy and is stronger than a cardboard box tbh, it's cylindrical so the edges don't get dented in, and the only issue I see is the end caps coming out, which can be taped.

wrap it in bubble wrap and brown paper then?

you are paying for the mat and the manufacturers packaging and should expect it to arrive in mint condition.

Anything short of mint is unsatisfactory.

The packaging on the mats is designed to protect the product during transit. Presumably the company realised that boxing them up would be a pain so made the actual tube way, way more than sturdy enough to cope with the postal system. The only error they made was with the end caps, and that can easily be rectified with tape. Businesses are around to make money, and they waste less money dealing with occasional returns from picky customers than they would packing them all up into boxes. If I recall they ordered over 1000. 1000 cardboard boxes that size plus the labour and productivity cost of sorting it all out, not to mention the increased shipping cost, is a massive expense, which would inevitably be passed on to the consumer. And people don't want to pay extra for more packaging, as 99% of the time the tube will just end up in the roof anyway. :p
