Xmas... drink driving...please don't...please.

Good video. Thanks.

Personal preference but if I'm going to drive I won't have any drink at all. Even one beer isn't worth it after I've heard stories about other people.

Hope the roads are safe for you and your families over the holiday and in the future.

Perhaps I was to subtle.

I agree with you, but it also raises awareness to look out for people that might be drink driving. Certainly around the time of Christmas parties where people suffer from peer pressure and may take an additional drink that pushes them over the limit.
I don't envisage people getting completely wasted and then trying to drive, but hopefully it might make some people think again when they get offered one more pint in the pub.

Good reminder.

Personally i think there should be a new law of ZERO alcohol introduced. If you cant arrange before hand for a lift from a non drinker, or a taxi then dont go out!

Under my new laws ANYONE caught drink driving would face a new charge of "attempted murder due to intoxicated driving" that carries a min of 5 years in the nick and a life ban from driving and a large fine that cannot be gotten out of... you earn a pittance? then youre eating smart price beans for a LONG time matey.

That should get the message home :D

Drink driving.... there is NO EXCUSE

I hope you're joking, but I can't tell. You might actually be serious about ruining a fundamental premise of criminal law (intent) and effectively making it illegal to drive (anyone may show a non-zero blood alcohol level at any time, even if they're completely teetotal).

What's the consensus on drunken cycling here?

There is zero chance I'll drive a car while drunken, but upwards of 80% that I'll be on a bicycle while well over the limit.

Well then you're pretty much just as bad as a drink driver.

Just because you're on two wheels as opposed to four doesn't mean you can't do people damage, and damage to yourself.

You're a fool.

Interesting perspective. There's a considerable difference in the magnitude of damage I can do to anything when on a bicycle instead of in a car. Further while drunk I'll be cycling at around half the speed I would be when sober, so falling off doesn't matter all that much and is considerably safer than falling off while sober. Indeed falling over while walking is likely to do just as much harm to me as the bike sliding as I'm more likely to hit my head.

The only way I can imagine causing significant harm is if I meander out into the middle of the road and a car hits me. However were I on foot, the odds of this happening are if anything higher as there would be no lights. Is walking or running while drunk then also equivalent to driving while drunk?

i am drinking driving and writing this on my blackberry just for the lulz!

on a serious note drink driving is bad mmmkay, losing your license is bad mmmkay.

As a rule, I don't drink at all before driving. There have been occasions when I have broken this rule (2 in over 5 years of driving) where I have driven a few miles, well within the legal limit.

What's the rigid "my limit is ZERO" peoples opinion on this? And what do you say to alcohol content in food, such as that Italian ice-cream?

Don't eat stuff with alcohol in it before you drive. If food is clearly labelled when it contains alcohol, then there is no excuse.

That's Austrailian, isn't it? They should definately air that over here. Would make more of an impact than the regular "drive safe" ******** we see in the UK.

Anything to drive the message home to the selfish "just one more pint" brigade.

Yes, it's Australian. We're accustomed to hardcore drink/driving ads Down Under; I was surprised at the weakness of the British ones when I lived in the UK.

Here's one of my personal favourites:

This is universally recognised in Australia as an iconic advert, and the phrase became so popular that it passed into everyday use. People still quote it today.

:/

using a mobile phone or txting whilst driving is A LOT more dangerous that someone having a shandy. The government are using a sledge hammer to crack a nut.

Have some consideration for other people. Your entire post was about what damage it would do to you. How about the damage it does to everyone else? You cycle across a road through oncoming traffic because you're not paying attention. Car swerves to miss you and hits another car. Well done - you just injured people in two cards, but you're absolutely fine.

This is the cause of a lot of the drink driving problems we do have - people who don't think about others and are shut off in their own little world, oblivious to the problems they're causing.

PS - you can be done for being drunk in charge of a pedal cycle.

Don't eat stuff with alcohol in it before you drive. If food is clearly labelled when it contains alcohol, then there is no excuse.

Not entirely practical at this time of year. Christmas cake? Alcohol. Mince pies? Alcohol. Christmas pud? Alcohol. OK, so you can get alcohol-free versions, but try that in a restaurant. Oh, and then there's the problem with mouthwash too.

The simple solution - don't drink and drive - at all.

Up here they will now apply to the court to have your vehicle forfeited and sold/scrapped if you have had a previous conviction for DD.... First one got done earlier this week.

The law for this has been there for some time but only starting to be used.

IMO

If you get a 2nd conviction for drink driving you should be banned for life. Killing someone whilst driving drunk should be at least manslaughter, but I do think it should be murder, and carry a life term.

I really don't thing we're tough enough on this. I had my works meal/night out on Friday and no one who stayed the distance was in any way fit to walk straight let alone drive, but you see it on TV and in the papers the state in which some ****s do.

To all the people going way OTT about a zero limit.
Stuff you, if I want to have a half and go and drive I will! Similarly if I want to have 4 pints tonight and then drive at 9am I will. I know I'll be under the legal limit but there could well be 0.1mg of alcohol left in my blood, again stuff you!

I would never defend driving over the limit at all but what about all you people with slower than average reaction times. Should you be allowed to drive?

I'll be drink driving this year.

The number of people killed last year as a direct result of alcohol abuse was 35,000.
The number of people killed last year as a direct result of driving a car was 22,000.

The number of people who were killed last year as a direct result of drinking AND driving was 500.

I'm not taking any bloody chances.

Are you sure that 500 isn't drink related road deaths? Ie it includes drunk people walking into the road and being killed by sober drivers, and even drunk pedestrians banging their heads and dying?

He got it from a comedy show. It was a Live at the Apollo, if I remember correctly. It was mildly amusing then, and less so now, but I wouldn't take it seriously.

It's a quote from Lee Mack, I wasn't being serious. I don't even drive.

Why do my posts always seem to confuse somebody?

Ive edited the post to clarify :p you were indeed on the mark :)
