Yamaha MT-10

The BMW has so much electronics built in, I don't think I could trust it as far as reliability is concerned, I ride every day and a breakdown would be adisaster. Yamaha, however, is my brand of choice due to their sheer and unadulterated bullet-proof reliability and are so well put together it's amazing. My question still stands though:

To be honest, of all the reliability issues I could think of on an S1000R, the electronics would be quite low down on my list. I've owned mine for over 2 years now and not had a single electrical issue or gremlin. I've not really heard of any other owners having electrical specific issues, far more mechanical ones though.

As for the opening question - I don't think I could chop an S1000R in for an MT-10 unless the engine was most of the the equation. Paying more for arguably less *shrug*

A hard break in is ok as long as you change the oil very very soon. If you want to stick to the manufactures service routine do as it says in the manual.
