23 0ncb first own policy in not too great of an area, i'm a grand for my audi URquattro 2.2l Turbo
probably could have got it a bit cheaper if i had shopped around a bit more but i was in a bit of a rush to get it insured.

Dear lord no. Boy Racer Insurance, Rust, and little end bearings. Anyway the Escort is the Bravo's competition, but that also rust's, and they all sound like diesels.

It's the insurance I want advice on, but I'll lay down some criteria for the type of car I'm after:
-Medium sized hatch.
-Decent toys; Power Steering, leccy windows and bits.
-Comfortable seats, lost of adjustability of posture (I fit the average man's seat poorly).
-more than 80bhp/ton.
-Not killer on insurance.
-Good on economy.
-Proven reliability.
-Acceptable looks.
-Manual gearbox (I like to use heal n' toe so good pedal spacing is a bonus).
-Galvanised.
-Decent mpg and cost of maintenance (I do know how to use a spanner).

Er no, do a search on here and you'l see its far from it. Even the rust issue isnt that bad if the rear arches have been maintained :). My fez 1.25 was the cheapest insurance by FAR in comparison to all my other mates in their smaller engined saxos, 106s and puntos etc... i couldnt believe it.

306/Xsara 1.9DT is shouting out at me, but the gearbox wont be half as nice as the fez 1.25 (the one on mine was SO smooth, lovely gearchange, typical of ford though). Fez is one of the best small hatchs in terms of pedal position and comforting tall/large people. Value for money wise, theyre both on par with eachother. Both fairly reliable. The fez will probably slightly have a better ride but the 306/Xsara mite be that slightly more comfortable. 306/Xsara will be better protected against rust. Other than that, mondeo... lots of bang for buck but obvi not a medium hatch.

Hmm, The Fiesta is still too small, I'm beginning to struggle with the size of the Punto.

Xsara is an interesting idea, one of my friends has one and it seems half decent, though I'm not comfortable with relying on a French gearbox.

The Bravo idea is mostly because there is roughly 25 years worth of FIAT mechanic experience in the family, and other than the HGF thing, the F.I.R.E. keeps on chugging.

fair play on the fiesta then, if you need to upsize, then thats off the cards.

I have a ph2 Xsara now, very comfortable and handles quite well, gearbox isnt the same as the fez yet still is a lot better compared to our ZX. the xsara holds very good value for money tbh and plenty of nice engines to choose from.

If your family is into the FIAT way of things then go for it, i understand the new ones are decent enough, ive just read and heard so many bad things with the older ones.
 
With Direct Line I paid £1500 for my 1.6 Focus Zetec at 17, Fully Comp, Own Policy with renewal coming up in December and me obviously being 18 now Im hopeing it's even cheaper :D coupled with 2 years NCB in Nov. (1 from Moped 1 from car)
 
Just use them to get a ball park figure, tried them as a joke with the Punto, and the current policy under my Dads name cost about 30 to 40% less than the cheapest the offered.

Even with 1 years NCB, I'm still getting quotes close to £1800 :mad: :mad: :(

It's been £2000 this year with 0 NCB.

I was expecting it to be closer to £1200 with 1 years NCB.

That's with both parents added too. There's nothing else I can do to make it any lower. Who are you insured with Fox?
 
It was the Admiral Group who were giving me the better quotes. I'm with Bell at the moment, will see what they come up with when I get my renewal documents through.

Would you believe it, Tesco and Direct Line wanted £3000 TPFT :eek:

Might give Chris Knott and A Plan a call tomorrow, see what they're like. Not overly impressed with the Admiral Group anyhow. Called Elephant up last week to see what's happening with that Combe crash... still waiting to be sorted :rolleyes:

We all know it's going to go 50/50, so why not just get it over and done with.
