YAY!

I didn't actually touch the other car, but it was a Rover.

A conversion at that, so not actually worth any money in terms of an 'enthusiast' car :p

Best not joke about it though. Was a horrible accident and the guy was very lucky. I think the total cost of the claim is around 28 grand

Maybe, but I would have thought the increase in both age and NCB would have reduced the premium by a considerable amount.

Sorry for the hi-jack btw.

These sorts of threads full of people saying "I can insure a space shuttle at 18 for £200" always make me wonder if my insurance will ever become reasonable :(

To the OP, first policy for ~£1k sounds good to me, go for it. I paid more than that at 21 even with the NUD 50% off for pass plus.

I've been shopping recently for my first car and I've found it is a LOT cheaper if you phone places rather than use the Internet. You are talking half the price at some places. Try it :)

Got a quote the other day (whilst daydreaming) - for a Kadett with a 200bhp C20XE under the bonnet, big wheels, arches, cage, seats, harnesses, heavily modified chassis (rear end cut out and replaced with 4-links, watts linkage and venturi...) and so on...

Zero NCB
Parked in residents car park
NE8 postcode

...

£480 TPFT

Skillshot!

*n (just needs to get this sodding house bought so he can start spending money again)

That's more like it!

Got my renewal stuff from Bell through today... £1400. Sure I'll be able to get that a bit lower with a couple of calls.

My CTR is £1500 to insure with Churchill with 2 fault accidents and 1 NCD. Prudential are also quite good for quotes too.

I never bother with these "middle-man" sites like Confused. They seem to add an extra grand on the premiums just for fun. One middle man site managed to harass me via phone for 3 days too.

Phone around all the main companies then play the two lowest off each other. Works for me. With Churchill Admiral and Prudential, they're all part of the same group. So when one offers a lower quote, find out who has the better policy (Churchill do £1000 contents insurance usually so I chose them) and get them to match the lowest quote.

Still sounds a lot at your age, even with a turbo.

Do other 420 GSi turbo owners have expensive insurance? Maybe folk crash them a lot.

It's not bad. The crash on the way to Combe and loss of NCB that followed is the reason my insurance was £2000 this year. Don't forget, it's a group 17 car and I have a bad postcode.

I would have thought the Coupe Turbo was the car of choice to get crashed as there are so many of them and only 250 420 Turbo's (I wonder how many remain now after being stripped for their engines by the ZR boys) :(

Is the advanced driving course better than PassPlus for lowering premiums or the other way around?

I have found IAM to not knock anything off really.

It is amazing how much people have to pay for insurance sometimes. I must have got lucky to only pay £600 fully comp at 18.
