Yesterdays Arrivals! (Kittens)

Those are beautiful and look really sociable and friendly. awwww

These things are very very friendly. Great with kids. From what I know though, they do shed, so as long as you are prepared for that...

The Maine **** was my 2nd choice cat. They are very laid back and can associate with virtually any breed of cat or even dog/animal, providing that the other animal doesnt try and kill/eat it.

Personality-wise, these are absolutely the safest bet. Very few reported problems. And like the thread-starter said, they just keep growing and growing and growing.

Top cats.

Cheers Sunama, yeah im prepared for the shedding, i actually bought a hoover that has a powered brush on the head specifically for it :P

It was either Maine Coons or Norwegian Forest Cats, another large breed, i went with these in the end purely due to availability.

Oh and the best thing about pedigree kittens? Litter trained from day 1.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOh.

Dont speak too soon. Thats all I'm going to say. With Reflex, I had 3 accidents. Ive only had my Bengal for 2 days, so far no accidents, but I am expecting them to happen.

Be prepared and if you smell something nasty (where there shouldnt be anything nasty), have a good search.

I had to use strong disinfectant in the area that Reflex had defacated in and placed a kitchen towel over the area. I also made sure that I walked him to the litter tray regularly, just in case and to give him a good idea of exactly where the tray was and that a monster wasnt going to eat him if he ventured out of the lounge. A month on however, and he is very well-behaved in that respect.

When I was looking for Maine Coons, I too was having great difficulty locating available kittens. That was when I widened my search and included the Egyptian Mau breed.

Maine coons apparently have HUGE bushy tails, so watch out for that as they grow older.

They're adorable :D. If I couldn't have ragdolls, I'd want maine coons because they're just so cute and I love semi-long haired cats.

What colours are most popular for this breed? Do they come in Jet black with little white boots? Out of all the breeds that I've seen this would be the one I'd personally get if I got a cat.
Wonder what Sunama's Mau would make of one of these ;) a big friendly cat against a boisterous and agile one.

This is the classic, pedigree look of a Maine ****:

Black would be possible, but you really would need to hunt it down. And with white boots...you really would have your work cut out.

TBH, the Maine **** would be a little too lethargic for the Egyptian Mau, but for a Bengal, it wouldve been fine. Most people dont like hyper active cats though.

As the thread starter said, Maine Coons, grow very slowly, but continue growing for longer and end up larger than pretty much any other domestic cat (Ashera and F1 Savannah, excepted). When they reach full size, Ive seen how Maine Coons move and they are a little on the slow side, but their large size acts as a deterrent. They are big and strong, but are generally not aggressive. Maine Coons score very very highly on their personalities.

Its amazing to think that if you buy a cat, it will probably live for about 15+ yrs. I'm not sure how old Makunouchi is, but I'm 33 right now - to think that my cats will be with me when I'm around 50! Many marriages dont even last that long. Buying a kitten is a very long commitment.

They look just like one of my cats. Warning, they grow into MASSIVE cats. You can't really tell on my pics but he's more like the size of a dog, he's huge! Easily twice the size of my other cats.

And nowadays

Would the Mau get bored of a **** and not chase it around the room? When we're talking about how big a Maine **** is, how big in average measurements are we talking? Like over 10kg and 30cm to the shoulder or...?
What do you feed a cat that big btw?

:o omg. That's one mighty fine kitty though I must say. The pure white coat is spectacular indeed.
I'm guessing that the **** in question is over 4 years old and a male? Really nice cats these are.

Usually they are either tabbie or tortie. Brown/black with white is most common but they come in silvers and solid colours as well. Here you go: http://www.maine-****-cat-club.com/gallery/

@sunama, yes they are slower, the main reason for that though is that both your breeds are a lot closer to wild cat in terms of domestication i believe, so they still have their inbred instincts. However the **** is pretty special as well, seeing an animal the same size as a dog jumping and slinking like a cat is stunning, at least to me ^^

Also thanks for the pics eidolon.

He's even got the white boots

That does look like a **** to me, but Makunouchi's kittens are close to what the pedigree breeders try and achieve.

Eventually, it would get bored, yes. For example, today, my Mau went and sat on the window looking into the garden, leaving his new friend in the lounge. He soon got bored of that though and returned to harrass the Bengal, as he finds that much more interesting ;)

Generally, they grow to around 10KG+. Dont be too over awed by its size though - a lot of it is fur and if you get one, be prepared for the hair problem, so you would need to think about the best way to deal with it.

IMO, the cutest kittens Ive ever seen are that of the Maine **** and that comes from someone who isnt really into the cute factor.

Maine Coons are fed in exactly the same way as other cats, so nothing special. They are not terrifically active, so they wouldnt need to eat as much as you might think. As comparison, my Egyptian Mau would probably eat more than a Maine ****.

get a picture of them climbing something (curtains falling down in a mid-action shot lol :p) action shots! :)

Edit:

that surprises me sunama. I'd have thought that Coons have big appetites or needed special things to eat (indeed would have thought the same for most pedigree cats requiring special food)
