Yesterdays Arrivals! (Kittens)

@Sunama, yes they are slower, the main reason for that though is that both your breeds are a lot closer to wild cat in terms of domestication i believe, so they still have their inbred instincts.

My bengal does have a little wild blood in him, though believe it or not, the Egyptian Mau has been domesticated over 1000s of years, dating back to the Egyptian times. Of course, the way my Reflex behaves, you would think I got him straight out of the jungle.

However the **** is pretty special as well, seeing an animal the same size as a dog jumping and slinking like a cat is stunning, at least to me ^^

There is a youtube clip where a Maine **** scares away a pitbull terrier. I doubt that any other cat would even stand around, while a pitbull barks at it. Their major characterics are their long hair and large size. I like their size.

He's even got the white boots

That does look like a **** to me, but Makunouchi's kittens are close to what the pedigree breeders try and achieve.

Nahh, mine's just a regular moggy but he does look like a Maine ****. He's certainly a similar size to one anyway!

I like the black&white one, the white one and the blue-cream&white, in the 'solid section'. But then again any of those would make a welcome addition (one day :()

Such beautiful cats on that website awwwww.

They are not terrifically active, so they wouldnt need to eat as much as you might think. As comparison, my Egyptian Mau would probably eat more than a Maine ****.

Hah, they are currently on 2 pouches of Whiskers kitten food a day! But they probably spend 2 hours sleeping to every 1 hour of activity currently.

My Reflex started on about 2 pouches per day, but a month later, he is now on 3/day. A lot also depends on his activity level. If he has an active day, then he can get through 4/day. On sleepy day, he might eat 2. I just give the cats as much as they want.

With the Whiskas, you might to try topping it up with some real meat, to boost the protein content. I think Whiskas only has 4% meat, minimum, which isnt high. You might also try out Natures Menu (40p/pouch). Pets at home sell them. They are pricier than Whiskas, but I feel they are worth it. I mix Whiskas and Natures Menu together.

Aah, so they didnt grow as big as I was led to believe. I thought they would get to the same size as a Maine ****. The boy in particular, looks very young.

Judging by the image name, he would have been 2 when that photo was taken, but he doesn't really look any different now aged 4. They are both from British lines, the American ragdolls are quite a bit bigger, they're a nice size for cuddles though :).

I found out while sitting at my desk this morning that my New Most Painful Thing in the World is a kitten trying to claw its way up your exposed shin, round your knee and along your thigh in an attempt to get on your lap from underneith the desk. "SON OF A ****!" i believe were my words.

And has anyone found a way to stop kittens chewing computer wires? Ive spent half my time so far keeping them from electrocuting themselves.

Anyway im off to the pet shop later to get a scrathing post and something for them to chew. Ill probably get some different food as well.

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!

When my Bengal first arrived, I wanted to cut his claws, but couldnt because I felt he needed them to protect himself against Reflex. During this time, his claws were as sharp as pins. They were like razor blades. My low legs are covered in wounds that have been caused by these claws, over the last 3 days. Yesterday, I cut the claws.

Make sure you cut your cats' claws. This is very important. You must get them used to having their paws touched and claws cut. If you dont do this while they are young, then when older, they may put up a big fight if you attempt to cut their claws.

As a guide, I trim Reflex's claws every week and the Bengal will get the same treatment.

Strange that neither of mine chew wires. They try it out, but when the wire doesnt fight back, they tend to ignore the wires. I'm not sure what you can do to stop this behaviour.

I suggest that you make a list of things that you need and order online. You can save yourself a packet. And dont be surprised if they hardly ever use the scratching post.

Well i get the feeling that they want to scratch something, they are constantly trying to scratch the fire guard (wire mesh thing), and i dont plan to cut their claws, if im letting them outside once they are older nature will do it for me for the most part.

You are letting them outside? Do you live in a busy area with people and traffic? Most pedigree cat owners dont let their cats roam free. You can have a cat run, but that will be enclosed.

If I let my 2 out, they would both be nicked in less than 3 days. The Bengal, especially, as he is friendly. At least Reflex is fast, agile and scared of strangers, so he might be difficult to steal. I still wouldnt risk it though.

As a guide, both breeders I bought the cats from, donot allow their cats to roam in unsecured areas.

Your 2 are probably very placid/friendly, so are vulnerable. It depends on the area you live and also how you feel about letting them out.

Also consider that free roaming cats have vastly shorter lives than their captive counterparts.

Its your call though.
