this made me laugh

imagine that with a true

or any other half decent cooler!

you would have thought they might have thought about people using 3rd party heatsinks when they decided to build a case that would be mostly used as a test rig.... TRUE would be bad, but imagine a IFX-14 ....ouch.

IF true, what do you expect?

Mac Pros are what, 2+ grand? You can get an equivalent PC for <700 and put OS X on that too.

Mac Pro's are £1.5K (on Student Discount).

Putting OSX on a PC you've spent £700 on is fail.

The Mac Pro case has amazing build quality. Plus, an equivalent 8-core PC would cost the exact same as a Mac Pro, not half the price.

I'm replying to this comment because I'm bored. :)

I am absolutely amazed this thing ever saw the light of day if it will only accept a stock cooler. Surely, if they haven't already done it, OCUK should spell it out in the item description in big capital letters "WARNING MAY NOT FIT WITH ANY OF THE HEATSINKS WE SELL". What a complete waste of time.

Just did quick add up in my head and you can get 2x Quad xeons and mobo for £600, no what is it that you're including on top of that that adds to 2K or even 1.4K?
( I don't know much about OSX, but you can get a pretty good PC for £700 now, I don't see how it wouldn't work?)

Actually, 2x 2.66GHz LGA771 (less than a Mac Pro) Xeon CPU's cost a total of £640:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...66GHz (1333fsb) 12mb-cache Processor - Retail

A decent workstation board costs about £300. You could buy a Skulltrail and overclock but a Skulltrail retails for near £500 which ruins any savings you may make.

2GB of FB-DIMM RAM is £70: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...Registered Dual Channel Kit (CT2KIT12872AP667)

An 850W Enermax Galaxy PSU (designed for Xeon mboards) equals £144

An E-ATX case? £100

GPU = £20

That all equals about £1,270. And that's being conservative.

They really neglected the fact that anyone seriously interested in this would use a decent cpu cooler, its just a stock cpu cooling benching platform otherwise and there are better examples of that out there. Poor show and seriously poor design knowing the comunity they are appartently trying to cater for.

Im not suprised Yewen has been slow to review it with all the components in place.

If it doesnt allow the best coolers, then what the hells the point in it lol

Also makes me wonder whether all the units Yewens says were bought on spec without any as built pics, have subsequently been returned owing to this most basic of failures in design. I imagine if I'd bought a full machine spec including that case I would be seriously annoyed had I not been warned by ocuk beforehand about the incompatabilities.

Nothing that calculated unfortunately, I would just wade in and say its pap. :D

I am sure you can get it to work, but it is a major major problem with the design if this is true. They are selling well at the moment, I will get chance to have a proper look at them but unfortunately I7 has been taking most of my attention up recently.

is the top [curved bit] detatchable?
if so i guess you could take it off - install heatsink then reattatch

but i guess it defeats the idea of it being a slide in design

I think companies who make heatsinks will design one specifically for this ...in the form of a triangle! :p

Probably Thermaltake, just to be true to form and the irony of making a cooler to be compatible with your main competitors case.

Just finished reviewing this myself and I can only echo Yewen in his findings tbh. Ninja, Xigmatek S1283 and TRUE - none of them fit:(.

Aye its a shame, when you first see the case you do not think that coolers wont fit!

It is the worst design oversight in a case in the last 5 years, the case still has a purpose but it wont be the all singing all dancing case it could have been due to this.

I will be pushing for a rev.2 Skeleton with a simple solution to the problem.
