Yogventures! - Kickstarter

Then you also have advertising revenue from their website, revenue from shop items, and forum subscriptions. They have multiple channels of revenue for funding this sort of development. But as said, if other people are willing to fund the project for them, why should they fund it themselves?

I have no problem with any of that, just simply pointing out they make a killing. If people want to support their project, of which I have no interest in playing then that's fine by me, plenty of others clearly wanted to support it.
I also see nothing wrong with how they earn their money in fact I'm jealous.

However If people are willing to spend 10K to have a meal with them two I wonder what genuinely talented people must make from suckers. I know for a fact if I was popular on youtube for my gaming talents I wouldn't be charging someone to have a meal with me seems too conceited to be honest even if it is to fund a game I wanted to make.

I quite enjoy the Yogscast videos

Kickstarter is a crowd sourced voluntary donation system for projects that require funding. It is the individual responsibility whether they donate or not and there are no garanutee's that the project will go ahead.

From what I have seen of the game I'm not particuraly impressed and I dont think £300 or £500k is going to change that but at the end of the day if people want to donate its upto them. It does not mean the people involved are just going to cash the money in and move to Australia

I have a rough idea of what they make and it's certainly more than half a million sterling a year. 67 Million views in the last 30 days at the very least that's £40K (and i'm guessing they run more than the one main channel on monetized assets) so probably a cool million a year with their other channels (Bluexephos is the one I looked at)

Maybe you're right but we don't know that they are not putting in any of their own money, for all we know they could be putting up 500k of their own money but that may not be enough to make the game they want. So far we have seen pre pre alpha its like judging skyrim on a tree a few bushes and wolf we have no idea how this game will be in 18 months. I think people are just hating for who they are rather then their idea, because they make YouTube videos they can't do anything else.

Besides that, its selling the game cheaply to the people who are likely to pay for the final version. one thing that hasnt yet been explored around KS is the fact that youre taking a big chunk out of your potential buyers and giving them a reduced price early on in exchange for development funds. For marginal games this could be an issue when they launch, especially where they need corporate funding or a publisher, and have to factor those numbers into projected sales.

Anyway, I agree with the above, people hating on yogscast seem to have their motivation in jealousy rather than any rational reason two guys who make funny videos are actually evil.
