You dont expect this down in Cornwall...

It's strange, apart from one of my friend's father (who is an old farmer) I don't know of anyone who is openly racist in Cornwall – certainly no one of my generation.

They're odd folks in St Agnes mind. ;)

I kinda expect that in places like Devon, Cornwall, Wales, Scotland etc..

I do, Devon and Cornwall are the last areas of the Uk to that multicultural i'd hazard a guess to say..

This is expected in Cornwall, it is pretty racist down that way.

I completely disagree with these statements.

I was born and raised in deepest Cornwall and I have never known or experienced racisim, even as a 'joke'. During my travels I have seen racisim in bigger populated areas and abroard, but not down here.

A lot of people regard the west country folk as backward and racist and that in its self is pretty racist!

Its the isolated act on this poor man trying to do some good that shocked me...:(

There's plenty of racism down there. You probably don't notice it as there's virtually no minorities down there either.

Where I work there are a lot of minorities, and don't forget the summer and the tourists. We get every walk of life from every country arriving during the summer.

If there was lots or racism I would know about it.

Luckily it appears to be secular.

I am a bit horrified as to what happened..

Same experience; I'm also in Camborne and I don't really notice much in the way of racism... might just be because the Polish look so much like us.

I quite frankly am racist towards my fellow Cornish, buncha numpties!

What did I just read?

Might sound a bit weird, but to be honest I just never see any other ethnicities down here than white :\

Maybe I'm not going to the right places eg Redruth and Camborne :p

same, i live in north devon and been to cornwall a lot, i rarely see anything other than whites. i think racism is expected in the west country :\

These sort of acts are unforgivable but i do say one thing:

These 'education centres' the pop up everywhere are Mosques in everything but name. And really should be clamped down on, there's one two doors down from me and they take the complete ****. Parking is a complete chaos and they pop up in places where there's hardly any Muslim community anyway. So it's a like car park round here on Fridays.

Born and bred in Cornwall and found completely opposite.

As already discussed there are very few ethnic minorities in the south west (from memory my school year had approximately 3 pupils who weren't white) and I found that the general attitude to ethnic minorities was certainly not very healthy.

Born and bred in Cornwall, where I'm from you couldn't hope for a more welcoming and loving community, whatever colour you happen to be. I'm sure there are pockets of people who think differently but that's the same all over the country, on the whole I'm proud to be Cornish and confident the vast majority of people not only feel the same but share my beliefs too :)

Rural people in not liking things they aren't used to, or perceive as a threat to the status quo absolute non-shocker!

Who was the labour politician that said she wanted to see more multiculturalism in areas of high white population in Cornwall? Bet that went down like a lead balloon over there!

OT: (and not in any way condoning the crime) - IMO if people want to live in segregation like that, let them. It happens in plenty of other areas of the UK.

Well said for Kernow. Yes there are numpties in all walks of life who spoil things for people.

They are usually UN-Educated or escapees from the JK Show
