You lot with kids, do you have a perfect clean house?

Some people on OCUK have very irrational views of dogs.
OTOH if you live with something you tend to become blind too it. (not just animals , smokers seem to have similar nose blindness , my old house mate who i rented to seemed to think smoking by an open window and a stick of gum somehow meant I would not know he had been fagging in my strictly no smoking house. other friends think the same.

Clean yes, even with 2 kids and 2 cats trying to put mucky hand/paw prints all over the place.

Tidy... as best we can lol

We've recently moved and whilst the place seems a lot tidier since, but we've increased size and still have a load stuff in the garage haha
And that was after a rather brutal chucking of a load of old junk

Yeah I deffo understand this

My auntie still smoke and whenever mum comes round after being at hers she reeks of smoke.
She's completely blind to it now

For those with cats the smell (litter tray) is easily manageable by location and changing the litter type/make

Because if you do, how the hell do you do it? (excluding those of you here that have servants etc..).

GF's dad rekons when you have a kid you just give up cleaning because it's always a nightmare, and to be honest I find a constant list of cleaning, the house seems to never be clean, it's like living in a hotel where I'm hospitality.

So yes, what do you lot do?

We get the kids to tidy after themselves. And then once they're in bed we do the last few bits. However when they were very young it was a bit of a battle but depends on what's important for you. I prefer a tidy home but it doesn't have to be a showroom. As long as it's tidy, I.e. it can looked lived in, with a few toys in boxes tidied away. However if it does end up looking like a bomb site the kids are good at tidying up (once they've been asked and often incentivised!).

We also have a cleaner that comes once or twice a week. However that's more of a deep clean. We run the vacuum as and when it's needed (usually a quick blast here and there). And we clean up after dinner and so on. The kids put their plates in the dishwasher, etc... We do live in the countryside so a bit of mud and so on is to be expected. We're not neurotic about having an impeccable home. As long as there's no food or toys strewn everywhere and things are put back where they belong that's as good as we need.

I try to just keep on top of basic tidying.

Thorough clean is pointless - spend hours or ££ on cleaner to make house spotless, then after 1 meal of spaghetti bolognaise or similar and it's ruined. Effort/reward ratio doesn't add up.

I reckon pets are worse than kids. The cat is always on the bed turfing out god knows what and the dog is walking all the mud in from the garden, gets to a point where I only have a really good clean if people coming over.
No kids, but we do have a rabbit with free reign of the house.

They may look fluffy and innocent, but they are chaotic agents of satan when they're in a bad mood.

Part of the wind down to bedtime for our 5 year old is collectively tidying up the toys, as time has gone on, without him realising, he does more and more of the tidying to the point, we're just there as he tidies at the moment. Yes there are blips and days where he can be obstinate and won't do it, however he's human and prone to emotions like the rest of us.

Tidying up after myself as a kid was drilled into me very young, if i made a mess or spilled something I was given a bucket of warm water and a sponge. Annoyed me as a kid but I'm thankful for it now.

I can't imagine having a kid 5+ and not getting them to clean up after themselves.

I've got some friends who appear to actively compete on how tidy and clean their houses are. Literally spotless every time I've ever visited.

I don't know how you could live like that. I seem to spend half my life vacuuming, tidying, cleaning bathrooms, kitchens, bleaching, washing up, repainting, fixing etc. But it's impossible to keep up.

2 Dogs + 2 kids + a wife that likes baking. Impossible.

We tend to manage really well, but that's because we keep on top of it. Also I work odd hours so I tend to sort the whole house while misses and kid are at school.

Completely agree. It's good to instill that responsibility young. They can make a mess as long as they tidy up.
