YouFibre

My VirginMedia contract is up and i have Youfibre 2000 being installed tomorrow morning (YEY), my VirginMedia link is still live and i plan on running that for the next 30 days in parallel to Youfibre (i work from home), im hoping my install goes well :)

Edit - My install this morning went really well with no issues at all, they allocated me the "FAST5599" WiFi7 Router which looks like a bit of a beast, i wont mess with the connections at the moment though as WFH and will remain on my VirginMedia connection through the next few days whilst the Youfibre settles and does the negotiating on speed etc, at some point in the next week or so i will give my 30 days notice to Virginmedia, never thought i would see the day but alas the time has come to move on!
Did YF buy you out of your VM contract?

It’s FTTP there’s nothing to settle or negotiate, it just works.

No mate i was already end of contract with VM, i just wanted to have the new install complete and ready before i give my VirginMedia notice in as i WFH and cant have any drop in connection, they did offer to buy out the Virginmedia contract i think up to something like £300....

That's what they told me about the buyout as I have just over a month left. I may go with it but oh my god they pester you if you enter details to check if you can get it at your address, over about four days I have had three emails and a phone call

Buyout works perfectly fwiw. I told my last ISP I wanted to cancel and they sent an invoice. I forwarded that invoice to YouFibre's email and the money was in my bank just over a day later. Easy.

They brought me out of my VM contract, hence my question! Great service and speeds to be fair

I really dislike the fact you have to give them your details to see if you can get their services, there should be a law against such shady practices. I never give real details of course if I'm just having a look, and I make it quite clear with what I enter about what I think about it.

Door man from You fiber came the other day, saying I only getting 100mbit, but that's because I split the bands and didn't tell the GF. Anyways their 1:1 ratio caught my eye, and apparently lower latency?

The fact I'd have up to 900mbit upload vs 100 with virgin caught my eye as I remotely stream my desktop for gaming as well as use a plex server, so I'm expecting this move will be much, much better for me, I know I had to pay £5 for the static IP, but he price matched my gig1 virgin media at 28,99 so I'm paying £33 for the 1000 package with YouFiber, hoping the wifi is as good as the Virgin Hub 5.

Think I've made a good move? Apparently I'll get the Eero router.

My contract with VM doesn't end until Jan 26 but they'll buy it out, I got the switch email from VM telling me because I'm in contract I need to pay an early termination fee of £0, odd, hopefully ok, either way they said £160, so be fine.

Upload isn't *that* helpful, 100Mbit can do plenty of 4K plex streams (assuming normal encoding.. I don't have many 4K streams over 20Mbit.. and same for remote gaming, steam remote play only needs 10-15Mbps..

However, if I had the chance of symmetrical, I'd go for it, my only option is VM (unfortunately), so whilst I guess I have to be very very grateful I have 1000/100Mbit, I wish I had FTTP options, my only other option is 8Mbps/2Mbps ADSL which isn't really a choice..#

I have Gigaclear who ran a cable right down the road just next to our estate but didn't venture on to the estate.. however, whilst that is symmetrical, they have all the ethics of VM with £30/m for 18 months, then 'normal prices' which is £85/m!!!

Out of everything I've tried, VM had the worst latency, which is probably to be expected given their older infrastructure (I know it's being updated).

Openreach and YouFibre both felt a lot snappier and latency was lower in games. Been very happy with YouFibre, and the better upload has been useful.

Edit: wifi tanked again, so I set up the wired network, see how that goes for a few days.
Since I wired the pc the connection has been stable.

Youfibre have been effectively impossible to get help from, because they rely on a chat which you join but wait times are over an hour. The couple of times I've reached someone they've been useless. Youfibre need to fix that situation, you can't just not provide support to customers.

So I'm in the situation of having to leave it wired, which isn't the end of the world.

So I conclude that the eero WiFi is fine for connecting a phone or TV, but for watching high bitrate twitch streams on a pc it's not up to the task. The BT hub was flawless so the way I see it youfibre need to give customers something better than an eero, something competitive.

Tbh I kinda got red flags about the eero when I saw they sell extenders on subscription. And again during the weird setup process. Makes me wonder what Amazon is doing on the sly.

@Demon I'm hoping it helps when I stream for gaming from 100 miles away at 150Mbit, and the latency improvement over virgin, I hope I notice a difference.

I had no issue with the Eero wifi from the TV, but my older laptop had connection issues - this was the laptop dropping/struggling to connect i.e. the routers wifi was still working.

Moved everything over to the Deco mesh system and haven't had an issue since so there possibly is something fishy with how the Eero manages wifi.

I had a PC and media server (running Plex) both wireless with the Eero and never had any issues. I just bought a internal wifi nic for each and was getting 930Mb on speed tests on both from my 1Gb line. I do now have them wired as needed to run a cable to the same room for something else so made no sense not to, but were fine for over a year on wifi.

The cable guy was round today getting the cable coiled up outside ready for Wednesday.

I hope I get an Eero router, kind of wished I went with the 2gig package for the Asus ROG router though!!!!

I have signed up and have 1GB being installed Tuesday hopefully all goes well, their website struggled to match my current Virgin Media account so I had to call to sort the one touch swap.

I noticed this over on the YouFibre reddit and thought I'd repost it here. It looks like YouFibre are going to be rolling out new YouFibre WiFi 7 routers and YouMesh WiFi 7 Boosters to new customers going forward.

YouFibre Hub (FAST 5598 YF) - User Guide
YouFibre Hub Pro (FAST5599 YOUFIBRE) - User Guide
YouMesh Booster (FAST 281 YOUFIBRE) - User Guide

They're all rebadged Sagemcom units.

Try asking their support first

Eero boxes must be quite expensive for ISPs to supply, as well as offering very little in terms of wired ports, telephone ATAs etc. Not surprised YouFibre want to move on from them.
