YouFibre

Just recontracted for 2gbps package, was tempted with 8gbps but don't think I have enough justification for it

Support absolutely useless as ever.... told me I don't need a new router as my current router is fine for 2gbps. It's the Eero 6.

The same router they advertise as having 2x 1gb ports.... one of which being the WAN port...

Whatever I say they will not replace my router, guess I'll have to wait for the new package to go live in September to complain.

Don't reply on ISP junk anyway, just get your own quality router and be done with it. Netomnia's underlying infra is really quite good. The YouFibre customer-facing overlay not so much!

Just wanted it to run my stuff in the meantime whilst I wait for Flint 4 :D

I use an AX5400 at the minute but handy having a spare!

just call someone on the tech line, you'll get the new router in the post next week

Line finally got reprovisioned today and I have more realistic speeds. Still not as high as sandys, but still wayyy more than I have any need for :D

The speedtest app is a bit better than the browser but always worth checking your drivers if you are running say Realtek, the windows ones are rubbish compared to the ones from Realtk.

You're right, the app is much better!
The website isn't testing your Internet connection as much as it's testing your browser's networking pipeline. Now try the CLI app!

Code:
speedtest -s 67541

That's on YOU2000 with fq_codel and a HTB shaper capped at 1.9 Gbps. Notice the latency under load actually decreases versus idle!

Wow your latency is nuts! Are you right next to the exchange? I'll have a play with traffic shaping in pfsense
I'm about 35 miles from LINX Manchester. The difference is a good router OS (VyOS) and tuning for latency not headline speed. In *sense (you should check out OPNsense) try an fq_codel pipe with 7.6 Gbps shaper for an 8Gb line. You should be good to shape up and down, but obviously your CPU and NIC is going to be a huge factor in how well you manage to shape at that speed.

I'm actually quite pleased with Youfibre. I've been with them over a year now and just renewed on You2000 for £30 a month, down from the £49 a month. They offered that to me, I didn't have to do any silly negotiations.

They did try to send me a new router, but I got the Asus Zenwifi Pro ET12 from them last year and Im sticking with that for now.

Pretend I've been living under a rock... why wouldn't I trust it?
Have had their fair share of vulnerabilities (like many) but some fairly frequent critical ones and especially bad response to them, poor software updates if available. Regularly targetted for botnet attacks due to their poor practises and support levels dropped off to a point where if you have problems you may as well bin it. That's before you begin to question the AI protection - who and where is that data going to?

Appreciate these are going to be minor concerns as the general user would think "the ISP gave it me so why wouldn't it be ok" but ISPs are about making money, rarely about providing quality CPE and if they've offered new, just take it.
