Young Drivers Banned at Night?

I heard this on the radio this morning and think its absolutely riduclous.

People pay a fortune for driving lessons/test and then there told they cant drive at night till there 24?

Not a good idea as what is it really going to stop?

If it works in other countrys then why not. However I would rather have crashed within 6 months in my banger at night than in 3 years time when allowed to drive at night in a car worth a fair amount more. As for other motorists... would it really make any duifference if you were hit at night by a 17year old in a corsa or by a 24 year old in a slightly bigger, heavier and faster car? A crash is a crash so itll cost regardless. But given the choice I would rather have a small car hit me than a large one. Less change of injury on my part if a dodge'm hits me when compared to a mini-bus.

May as well say 'curfew for chavs' however what about the students etc that work nights shelf stacking etc can't they now drive to work, what about in the winter will you not be able to drive home from a lecture.

Complete tosh, totally unenforceable, ridiculous

Bloody hell, the common sense people have is dumb.

Might as well ban everyone from driving, then there would be no deaths on the road at all!

Why don't they just make the driving test actually indicative of everyday driving (i.e. roll it up with the Farce Plus scheme)?

Very stupid and unintuitive idea: "This is a problem, so let's ban it."

Much more intelligent approach: "This is a problem, so let's find a way to manage it."

Longer driving lesson period means more tax, in a roundabout way. Everybody wins.

Whilst they're at it, introduce mandatory re-testing every 5 years.

Save a couple of lives at the cost of ruining many others, this essentially ruins the chances of young successful self employed...
Why do they punish a whole group for a couple of crashes caused by a minority ?

In that case they might as well ban old people from driving...

So how does not being allowed to drive at night for 2 years actually improve night time driving skills? Makes no sense at all.

Might give it a go, stop driving at night for a few days and see if I turn into a night time driving God.

Cant see that making a jot of difference, if you drive like a **** you will just be doing it during the day.

Keep things the same, but offer more prominent insurance reductions for things like GPS/GPS Video Recorder units in young driver's cars.

Offer them night vision goggles if night time driving is such as issue.

I can see the point, but if they were to implement it, it should be something like 1-2 years after passing, not a blanket 17-24. I've been driving for 6 years, during the day and during the night, putting a blanket ban on night driving for someone like myself would just be pointless as they have loads of experience yet someone who is 24 and passes has a lot less experience and is automatically allowed.

I know it's just a sensationalist news article as Muffin` has said, but without more information as to how they think it should be applied it is quite a retarded idea.

ignore

Its more newsbeat twoddle

even the daily sport has better journalistic credentials.

They've picked it some random study from a uni student and made out like its going to be future policy and got loads of people's ioppinions

How about..

Fitting black boxes to younger drivers cars to keep tabs on their speed etc, where having a black box = lower insurance
