No Gas, economy 7 (but no storage heathers - grr) and it's on for about 5 hours a day.

2 bedroom, small flat and I pay £76pm in electricity.

my house has been pretty badly refurbished by my landlord so there's no thermostat and the timer-function on the crummy boiler doesn't work at all, so we basically just have it on when it's cold and i turn it off when i start to sweat.

it's going to be so damn expensive... :(

Never in the morning, and in the evening for say 4 hours.

+ wood fire in the living room which helps.

When I'm at home, I turn it up to around 20C. When I go out, or when I'm going to bed I lower it to 15C.

just to update with my experience in the last week or so. The wife has been off due to the snow which has meant essentially the heating has been set to keep the house at 20 degrees all the time she was home and then dropped to 18 when we were in bed.

Our gas bill for the 9 days between readings was £25 so £2.70 a day Over twice the amount from the previous 30 days. As you can see in the graph that is a LOT higher than usual due to the time of year which is understandable.

As a result however i've set our CH to come on for 30 mins before the wife gets up and go off 30 mins later and then to come on at 16:30 and go off at 10:00. i'll let you know the price difference.

We also have gas hot water and gas hob but these use a lot less than the CH so i'm ignoring them. I'm taking a reading every night so I can see the differences and chart them a little more accurately.

FYI, we moved in on March 16th which is why we had almost no electric usage but still some gas as i was working on the house during the snow a year ago.

I voted - Thermostat all day/evening as required.

I work from home, I have my 'heating' on 24/7/365 keeping the house at a constant temp and cooled to a specific temp in summer.

Typically 21' in the day and 23' in the evening, a cool 16' in the summer.

To me 21 actually feels warm and 23 is considered hot, even when it's -10 outside I walk around in shorts/pants and t-shirt (pics on request).

You could say I like to live in my pants.

voted for thermostat all day/evening as required,
at the minute its running a constant 40c if not hotter during the day, only because the girlfriend feels cold :o
i'd probably get by with 40c all day and off at night but that's just me.
bills are set at £15 for gas and same for electric but i believe its going to be £50 for gas throughout each month of oct/nov/dec and maybe january, at a guess ofcourse.

We have ours on 5:30am-7:30am, and 5:30pm-10pm via thermostat.

Though we've started turning it off sometimes with the stove going as its bloody brilliant :).

How can you have "Other?" as an option after you've listed every possible combination known to mankind :p

i voted other ;)

i only use the gas fire in the lounge, keep the central heating off as the boiler is ancient & desperatly inifecient, & the damn landlord is too bloody tight to replace it & insulate the sodding house properly.

Short periods, timer only.

Enough to keep the house comfortable (not hot, not cold) and not on enough to end up with a massive bill.

If it gets real cold I will retire to the study and start a real coal fire. Now that keeps the room nice and toasty and also warms the master bedroom (because it warms the chimney) so that's a bonus. Bad news is that it needs cleaning out the next day...

Thermostat and it's on as long as someone is at home. Otherwise I just turn it down to 10C.

No point in sitting in cold house really is it?

Thermostat and I change it as as when I require. Usually set to 14 during the day 18 in the evening and 16 at night.
But been ill since Sunday so pretty much set at 19 all day even when at work, so I don't have to come home to a cold house.

would rather pay the money and be comfortable than be stingy.
How people can have there thermostats set to like 22-24 is beyond me that's like sauna hot.

We have central heating, but my parents can't afford it so I just use a 2kw electric oil heater in my room, the rest of the house is freezing, except when we have the coal fire going (then it's warm in a second room :D)

Not quite sure as our landlord controls and pays for the central heating :D. Its on in the morning / evening periods and moreso over the weekend - Generally my flat is very warm as its on the top floor!

Our heating normally comes on for hour or so morning and evening (and just put it on during the day if really cold, like recently). However I gather it is cheaper to have it on 24/7 on the lowest setting, to keep the ambient temp up rather than having to warm up a cold house twice a day.

No idea how much ours costs as I don't pay it.

Kerosene boiler, on for a couple of hours in the morning, back burner from open fire heats the house until the evening, then heating on for an hour when the kids get home, another roaring fire until about 10pm.

Cost? Shedloads :( Oil is very expensive and I go through a bag of coal every two days (£6 a bag)

I put mine on in the evening when I get back from work. Although my gf keep nagging me to sort the timer out. We get our gas from EDF who I think charge way too much.
