My CH programmer is set thusly:

6am-8.30am 19C
8.30am-5-30pm 17C
5.30pm-9.30pm 20C
9.30pm-6am 16C

I'm currently at 20C so the CH is off. I have a SETI farm to help.

Weekends use slightly different hours. I sometimes override the programmer - either up or down.

Depends on time of year. First thing, our thermostat is rubbish. Complained several times to landlord about it and despite attempts to fix I've now given up. We have to set it to like nearly max 30c to get it to come on. It's not the placement of it location wise as tried different places. Anyway, it does work, just for some reason reads temperature much higher than it really is.

So we do something like this at the mo:

06:45 - 08:15 - HW and CH on
12:00 - 14:00 - HW
17:00 - 19:00 - HW

And then we turn the heating on manually for an hour or two throughout the day as and when we feel we need it. At the moment a lot as family are ill and it's snowing!

My bills are about £40 gas per month, and about £100 elec per month. Elec is insance because we are in debit and they mucked up. Should normally be £75 ish.

Hi mate

Can you reply to my email seens as though you are active on the forums and the internet.

Cheers

Mine is on all day. The thermostat / timer sets the temperature for the hall and then thermostatic valves set the temp for each rad.

The thermostat / timer changes the temperature 6 times a day and each day is different.

Hot water is on demand from the combi.

However even though my house is relatively new (9 yrs) the heating effect in the living room is very poor despite a large radiator. I have to use a portable oil-filled one to stay warm. Im considering diving the room with a curtain!

I prefer blower-style heating, I find it more effective (Im talking central heating...but with blowing vents instead of radiators).

Came off timer since it's been really cold, took ages to warm the flat anyway, now running off thermostat 24/7 boiler seems to be working less hard too.

I never used to bother putting it on, however now I have a 6 month old I leave it on all day (he didn't like being put in the polystyrene box filled with bubble wrap).

Joking of course ;)

Don't lie, as his uncle i think it is only fair i get him a bigger polystyrene box. Lucky for him a fish sales van came down the street today so i will bung him a couple of halibut too.:D

Before this cold snap:

Thermostat: 21C (6am - 10am), Off (10am-5pm), 21C (5-11pm), Off (11pm-6am)

During cold snap:

Thermostat: 21C all day.

Interested to see what my bills will be like. I'm actually finding the house warmer but the boiler not having to work as hard. It came on about 45-60 minutes ago and just finished heating the house. Won't come back on for another 4 hours or so.

If it wasn't for my wife, I'd have it on less and with a lower temp. I literally spend the evenings in shorts and t-shirt, whilst she complains its cold still :(

No thermo here apart from the ones on radiators. Timer 3 hours (0500-0800) in the morning and 5 in the evening (1630-2130) - during this snap a boost at lunch just to keep the chill off too.

Radiator off in my room, window normally open too all year but its been -15 here and I had to draw the line and close it.

Our boiler packed in this morning, refused to ignite! Apparently it's due to a thawed waste pipe but we've poured hot water over it and it still won't light :(
Been freezing in the house all day!!

had this a couple of times in the last couple of months, mate is going to replace it for a bigger outlet pipe in the new year.

when you poured hot water over it did you see the water coming out the waste pipe as it melted ?

Exact same thing for us. I hate coming to work without a morning shower.

We've got some daft floor / ceiling heating in out house...

A massive slab under the house stores up over night then releases the heat throughout the day...Then we have ceiling heating on where we need it...

Basically the living room ends up being 'warm' (Sort of) and the rest of the house just sits there freezing regardless of what you do

Altohugh in the summer we dont need to even touch the heating, the house is a sauner for some reason

my kitchen is a real problem, no heating in there whatsoever, wash bowl is frozen solid and now so is the tap, please, please, please don't burst!

British Gas man has been, we basically weren't pouring enough water over it! A very long cylinder ice shape came out of the end, all's sorted now and the house is slowly warming up!

I've not got central heating in my house & heat the rooms i use when i use them, Crossing the divide between warm room & chill box room is like strolling through the freezer at Tesco. :p
I keep chanting my Mantra though.

I am a Man, I am a Man, I am a Man. :D + :p

Is this the condensate pipe?
My central heating is working fine but it might be worth having a look out side to check everything looks ok.

Yup, essentially the waste pipe. Best way to check is when the boiler is running, see if there is any liquid coming from the pipe. If not then it's most likely blocked/frozen. Some hot water on the pipe cures it!
