Ours is a prepaid meter :(

Costs about £1 a day for a hour or so of heat. Hobs and stuff are electric so we normally just freeze.

Timer only with short period in the morning, and all evening.

06.30-0730 and then 1700-2200

3 bed semi built around the 1950's with 20 yr old double glazing and oak floors, very cold in the winter even with the heating on. The BTU output from the boiler/rads is correct for the room sizes but that doesnt account for the heat lost through old windows/floor/wall insulation.

Spending about £20 a month on GAS which also includes 3 showers a day which is powered by GAS!

one advantage, its good for the pc, temps wise :p

i know how you are feeling, used to have a gas card metre, it used to cost about £15-£20 a week in the winter

I think it is left on all the time, but controlled by thermostat. We adjust the thermostat up and down throughout the day, so the heating is not actually on all the time.

We have had to have the heating on more than we would have liked this winter as my baby daughters room is very cold. I have seen a 10 degree difference in temperature between our room and hers! (I have since nailed several blankets to the window frame and it is not so bad).

Mixture of the above. One for about 90 minutes in the morning and six hours in the evening, but both thermostat controlled. When I had the full (five rigs) SETI farm that only applied downstairs, as the farm kept upstairs so hot the windows were open most of the winter. Nowadays a utilities bill of £225 a month has kinda forced a turn-off.

Heating 'on' all day - by which I mean we leave the thermostat to manage the house temp 24/7. From 6am to 10pm it's set at 18.5 degrees, from 10pm to 6am it's set at 15 degrees.

When both of us worked and the house was empty during the day, we used to have the heating switched off between 8am and 5pm. Oddly enough our gas bills have actually reduced since having the heating on 24x7 - I presume due to the fact that the boiler has to work less hard to maintain a constant temp in the house than it does to take a freezing cold house all the way up to 18.

We pay £50pm with npower (3 bed semi with a combi boiler).

My mum gets cold so we have the heating set to 23 C all day and then turn it down to 20 C. I'm not paying the bills so I am not that bothered :D

Depends on time of year. First thing, our thermostat is rubbish. Complained several times to landlord about it and despite attempts to fix I've now given up. We have to set it to like nearly max 30c to get it to come on. It's not the placement of it location wise as tried different places. Anyway, it does work, just for some reason reads temperature much higher than it really is.

So we do something like this at the mo:

06:45 - 08:15 - HW and CH on
12:00 - 14:00 - HW
17:00 - 19:00 - HW

And then we turn the heating on manually for an hour or two throughout the day as and when we feel we need it. At the moment a lot as family are ill and it's snowing!

My bills are about £40 gas per month, and about £100 elec per month. Elec is insance because we are in debit and they mucked up. Should normally be £75 ish.

My wife has set it up for about 90 mins morning and evening. I'd have it on more if it were purely my decision, but it's not, so I live with it and put more clothes on or sit under a duvet... as I'm doing now.

I'm sure I enjoy the money we save on heating, so I'm not too arsed.

just to update with my experience in the last week or so. The wife has been off due to the snow which has meant essentially the heating has been set to keep the house at 20 degrees all the time she was home and then dropped to 18 when we were in bed.

We find 18c is the max needed, but depends on your insulation etc I guess.
