Your country needs YOU!

It worries me honestly, and I cant think the way things are going its looking more and more likely.

I do also shudder at the thought of the average british joe trying to fight, I mean, NOTHING against out current armed force guys, I am sure they are worth 50x Russian or whoever, probably more.

But lets face it, some blokes dont even like eating chicken off the bone, let alone fighting.

Can you imagine this guy rocking up to fight?

Its fine, he will just blind the enemy with his massive bright white teeth.

If it was a conventional war Russia / China would get their **** pushed in by the US (mainly) and NATO pretty quickly. If it went nuclear there probably wouldn't be much need to send me.

I'd definitely go but being over 40 I would be last, last resort. If there was something I could do like logistics, maintenance, IT, anything like that I'd do it too.

Can confirm this happens...from playing BF3.

No. You just know it would be everyone, it would be the mugs only. Certain people would be exempt if you know the right people you'd be exempt.

Just a bit of a recruitment drive by the army is all this is.

There are a lot of career military who would love a good war - several generals at the UN have been scaremongering in the past few weeks as well. Seems like all ther old guys at the top are spoiling for a fight - probably so their mates can make a fortune out of it.

As people above have said - Russia is not strong enough to take on Europe let alone the USA - BUT Putin is mad enough to take us all with him if things went bad for them, that is the real issue.

Trump getting back into the White House doesnt exactly help World stability either.

Pretty much this.

I would willingly grab a gun and fight to protect my family if we were being invaded. If we were called up to invade another country unilaterally I would probably refuse as I don't see that as being needed to defend my family.

But if we are in a WW3 scenario then yes I would do it. I'm mid 50s now, with various ailments so I don't think I would be much use at the front. But I would go. I suspect I would be better employed in logistics, maintenance, support, IT or even home guard, etc.

But a big question is whether I could get Starbucks on the front line???

Having seen how the U.K. has treated the veterans of her misadventures in the Middle East over the last 20 years, I wouldn’t break wind for her.
Unfortunately that seems to be the public sector view of people that work.. I’m in a very close to public sector and the culture/attitude reeks of it.. I can see/understand why the politicians think the way they do.. it’s like they are stuck in the 1960s.

This is what i don't get about Trump supporters. It is obvious that he cosies up to Russia and authoritarians.

No one is going to attack a fully united NATO, and no NATO country is going to attempt to invade any other superpower like Russia, China etc so the status quo almost guarantees either peace or complete nuclear oblivion for everyone.

Upending the NATO alliance and that status quo would be MASSIVELY detrimental to the relative peace we have now.

Possibly they want to try taking Kyiv again then, but if the Germans have a secret document (lol) then it's no longer a secret and Russia's plans will have likely been changed as a result.

Just in case anyone was thinking I was making the document up this is a news article that mentions it. Though the leak is that it was made public, not that it was leaked from Russia to Germany.

The way the country is going, and given how much contempt our leaders have for us all, I can't say I'd be confident of adequate motivation to defend the place.

I don't think I make the grade, my knees are shot and I'm blind as a bat without glasses.
Also I have a past history of not following orders from muppets.

They may request my services at the modern version of Bletchley Park, and then I would think about it.

Maybe the best way to avoid the need for conscripts is to actually have a military that isn't being constantly shrunk down by a bunch of idiots. It would also mean we had people who actually wanted to be in the armed forces, and were trained for it.

There seems to be a common thing about those that think conscription or "national service" is a good idea, it's usually coming from people who are too young to have ever been called to national service, and too old to be at risk of being asked for it, and often the sort of people who would be able to ensure their kids/grandkids were not in line to be called up.

My dad, in his 80's missed national service by a couple of years to give an idea of how old you'd have to be to have been called up for it last time.
