Your current Fish tank Setups!

It is leaking from EVERYWHERE. From what I can tell there aren't any seals, it's just plastic on plastic so I'm not surprised it ****** out water everywhere! lol

I dont know if there should have been rubber seals fitted already or supplied with it, but I have none.

There will be an o-ring on the lid where it meets the canister body, usually recessed into a groove to keep it in position. Check it's in the groove, they can get dislodged.

As for Fluvals, they are easy to work on and spares are plentiful at most places. Over the last 5 years I've used a 205 and then upgraded to a 305. The lid o-ring perished on the 205 so it started weeping, but cost a couple of quid to replace and it's been fine since.

Off to pets at home of all places to get a tiny 'on sale' tank for the molly fry! They appear to be breeding relentlessly!

Also need an external filter as the internal one can't cope with all the fish she's put in there.... stupid woman

Got the filter replaced wth the same model. This one had FOUR o rings on the taps that connect the lid where the previous one had zero lol.

I'm a little confused as to if the in and out on the filter means in as in "intake" as in taking water OUT of the tank an IN to the filter or if it means in as in putting weather INTO the tank and out of the filter LOL.

I have done the IN coming for the straight down pipe taking water out of the tank and the OUT going to the spray bar.

Correct :) Picked up the 400 today and it moves plenty of water, far more than the built in filter does. Currently running both until the external gets an established culture inside and then will do away with the internal filter.

Ok the new filter is only wet on the INSIDE thankfully lol!!!!

This is how I'm setup at the moment....

Does the positioning of things look ok? (Cable tidy to come)

I have put the heater under the spray bar so the spray bar moves warm water around (when I turn it on) and put the spray bar at a slight angle to get part of it disturbing the surface of the water.

No idea if this is right lol

I think I would have preferred that the down pipe was closer to the base of the tank, but that is as long as it is.

Nothing but coral sand in there so far.

Cheers,

G

One from further away to give an idea of size. yes it is bigger than our TV LOL (40")

I need to mod the lid to cut holes for the pipes to reduce the light shining on the wall at the back.

Nice, that alcove is crying for a tank to fit all the way :)

i had a thought about having a tank made with a pipe in the corner of the tank going from the base and out the side where the water level would be via a u bend so that when you top up the water , it would overflow down the pipe and out the tank.

ive seen it on a small tank, would it work on a larger scale? say 200L?

it would make water changes easy, just put a bucket under the pipe exit and fill up the tank with fresh water.

Some of the more expensive Fluvals are pre-drilled with pipes running through the base of the tank into the cabinet. I just uncouple the quick release from the filter then let the water flow straight into a bucket when changing the water.

Most heaters should be positioned vertically or at 45 deg, unless specifically stated in the instructions.

Ah, I read that if it was verticle it could just heat up a column of water and think the tank is hotter than it is so it may not be at the right temperature when it turns off.

It's a Fluval M200

Will check the manual again.

Looks like I can put the heater wherever I want as long as it is not touching anything, but it does say to put it near a source of water movement so I think it's good there.
