Your current Fish tank Setups!

yeh I think there might be 8 actually now, possibly even more, a few are so tiny they are easy to miss.

had to quickly read up on killifish fry, skipped the section on hatching :P

will have to go get some fry food but I think there's probably enough bits and pieces in there for them at the moment (after the tank got stirred up they were darting around feeding so...)

apparently room temperature is fine so I've put the heater on but turned it right down. I've turned the filter off for the moment as the current was quite strong for them and ammonia and nitrites are 0 and from these tiny guys I don't think it needs an active filter on constantly.

just need to change the water to bring the nitrates down a bit and generally clean up - however I'll need to let the water stand and bubble in my storage tank for a bit, and figure out how to change the water without changing out the fry with it :P

It's to replace a Fluval 205 which seems to be on its way out, it's also a pig to start, often taking 20-30 mins of unplugging, priming and trying all sorts to finally get it started after cleaning.

The tank is 125L with little planting, no CO2 etc so flow rates aren't of extreme importance, something that is easy to clean and get started would be most ideal.

Maximum budget is £100, although if something is appropriate for less, the better.


I've so far looked at Fluval 206's where people state its a much improved design over the 205 but there's still plenty of people complaining of it being a pain to start, being loud etc. I've also looked into a EHEIM ecco pro 300 which seems decent although apparently the handles a pain with some people even managing to snap them off, also a few problems with starting.

Any recommendations would be much appreciated, thanks.

I've just replaced a Fluval 206 due to a leak after a house move. Fluval were pretty useless when I called them so I cut my losses and bought an Eheim Pro 200 for £88 which has been great so far. Time will tell.

My Bristlenoses are constantly attached to the BACK of my bogwood and I rarely see the male, the female does have a bit of swim round every now and then but the male I see perhaps once a month :(

I really love cat fish, dads got 2 tanks downstairs as well,

So between us and 4 tanks we have, 2 spotted Raphael's and 2 striped ones, a vampire pleco, and my bristlenose, 2 long finned bristlenoses, a gold bristle with blue eyes and a golden nugget, and a big goldspot pleco.

So many catfish lol plus loads of american cichlids :)
 
update on my inadvertent killifish fry - just had to create a makeshift aquarium to split them into two groups, the bigger 4 and the smaller 4, because the bigger ones were definitely going to eat the smaller ones, saw one make a proper attempt and decided it needed doing:

bigger ones were easier to catch so went in here:

Does it have to be TMC? I mean, you could just get a private builder to make one. Would certainly work out cheaper I imagine. Although you'd have to do the plumbing yourself if you wanted a sump and what not.

I think 90cm is a decent size to start with. Depends what you want to keep I suppose. Tangs are nice and all but they're really common. Same with Clowns. 36"x15"x18" is a great size. Looks perfectly proportioned, plenty of depth and height. Works out around 160l I think.
 
ohh massive tip for vieja (bifa) or any nut job aggressive big cichlid, do not do what i did and try to remove a piece of wood that she has laid eggs on even if their mouldy,

that bifa shredded my hands when i done it before lol

she is right next to my comp and watching me i think shes plotting something :p
