Your current Fish tank Setups!

50GPD plenty. You only change maximum 84 litres a week. The unit will knock that out in about 8 hours as long as your water pressure is around 50psi. Water pressure is a massive factor. Mine's only 40psi and it drops it to around 25 litres every 6 hours. But that's still plenty.

when I had my marine tank I was doing buckets and buckets in 60min tested it and found out I was running 90-110 psi(depending on time of day) lol through the poor thing for a a year:p

Time for a wee update I guess.

All the L. sediodes finally died :/. Not enough light I guess (stems got longer and longer whilst the leaves got smaller and smaller and eventually vanished). Have replaced it with L. inclinata var. 'verticillata', will have to see how that does. Also had an explosion of duckweed but not too fussed really as the current keeps it all in the back corner anyway. Looks quite effective.

I've given the palm grass a pretty aggressive prune as it was trying to escape through the skylight and was flowering like mad. Other emergents and submerged hair grass all doing fine. Still loads of tannins despite fairly frequent water changes.

Some fish photies from this evening (I rigged the old Kessil back up again) -

I've got 15 Iguanadectes spilurus and some more N. eques arriving next week :)

Added some RO water today (25 litres). Might do the same again for the next few days until I've replaced around half the old water with it. Purigen should be here tomorrow, just in time for the external filter's first maintenance.

What's a good brand of tropical fish food?

Hikari? Any others?

Also, there's a dutch brand of medicines that I've used years past. I seem to recall that they used more alternative remedies, rather than harsh chemicals - which was why I purchased them. Can't remember their name for the life of me.

Does anyone else here find the spindles in external filters that hold the impeller rather delicate? This is the second time I've managed to break one. :/

On a positive note, I placed the purigen in the filter today, and added the second batch of RO. I replaced the white wool pad, and dumped the phosphate one. The carbon bag, I'll probably keep, just in case.

seen people brake them before but not broke one self in over 10 years, then again ill only use one brand of external filter if not sumped tank

Does adding steamed veggies like courgette contribute to nitrates, or is it nothing to really be concerned about. Also, how long do you leave raw / lightly cooked vegetables in the tank before taking them out (assuming there's anything left)?

As long as not left in two long it wont matter. I tend to leave veg in max 24hours
