Your current Fish tank Setups!

Yeah the light is actually a marine light we got with the tank and I believe it is full spectrum. Sounds like we'd be happier sticking with the low tech, might grab some Vallis if that'll grow well, think it would make a nice background plant :) thanks!

You can get some interesting varieties of Anubias which work the same way as the Java you have.

If you have Pleco's I wouldnt bother with Amazon Swords, they have a tendency to damage the leaves as they suck on them.

There are lots of varieties of Crypt that are easy, just stick a few root tabs in every few months. Some red/pink varieties as well to mix things up.

Didn't go Marine in the end, with life commitments et al I doubt I could have put in the time and effort i'd really want to and would just end up frustrated.

Our 4fter
Theres ~30 fish in here, not that you could tell off this picture

Looks great, when ever I photograph my tank I never see hardly any of my fish either, but there is lots there.

Small tip for the Java Fern you have on the front right. Don't plant is in the sand the rhizome(stem that connects the leaves) will rot. Its best attached to wood or stone and it will completely cover it in time.

All rearranged :)

Ordered some vallisneria to go along the back, and some flame moss for the front :)

Might grab some of the more reddish crypts as well if they're going to grow ok, aren't anubias amphibious? I.e. they'll grow out of the top of the tank

Cheers. Oh didn't know about that! I was tempted to plant them on the wood but kinda like it bare!..

That's a really nice tank and IMO would look really awesome with plants that could grow out of it (permitting of course)

Normally I wouldn't shout out about a product but if your like me and have big chunks of bog wood that like nothing more than turning your water a tea colour that British rail would be proud of then I can thoroughly suggest putting some seachem purigen in your filter.
on another note (not related to above) my nitrates have spiked above 40ppl in one of my tanks, tested my tap water and that's 20ppl would it be worth bothering with anything to help reduce that? I've got a load more plants coming to help but also looking at Tetra Nitrateminus that suggests it will help reduce it but I'm not really keen on using additives to alter water parameters as it would be a constant battle to maintain them.

Hello all I'm putting together a shopping list for a tank myself. I've only ever had cold water but never had any issues so looking to stepup.

Apart from the missing fish & food am I missing anything else to get the plants and cycling started?

How limiting will the lighting and filter be that come with this tank? Or will they be fine to start off with?

Eheim Vivaline 126
Water test kit
Dechlorinator
Ammonia
Gravel
Eco-Complete substrate
Plant & Rock & Wood kit
Plant fertiliser

Thanks :)

The lightswill be fine as long as your not going for specific high light dependant plants.

Also the filter will be fine dependant on stocking levels. The more fish you add the more filter you will require

Aquamarine 900 175L tank complete with Aqua One Marisys 240 Pro Series 2 Complete Under Tank Filtration System.

Fish could be a bit more active though...
