Your current Fish tank Setups!

Can they survive out of water, feel a bit bad just taking them out and killing them off. Wonder if I can just put them in the garden :D
I can understand your thinking here; I don't know whether your local fish store will take them? Probably not, but it may be worth asking.

Assassin snails do breed but very slowly, if it’s a small tank you probably only need 1-2 to keep pest snails under control. They bury themselves into the substrate so don’t worry if they disappear for awhile.

They are a good control method, not sure on compatibility with shrimp but I’d of thought they’d be fine, shrimp are very fast and the snails are not so much.

It's a 60 litre tank that currently has an adult female guppy who's pregnant again, something between 12-14 baby guppies that are growing quick and 3 x Nerite snails, I think, - the shells aren't really prominent enough to ID them 100% at the moment.

Assassin snails are not an option then, they will eat the Nerites.

The eggs you see are from the nerites, they are very hard and not easy to remove but they will not hatch in fresh water. You’ll probably need a bladed glass scraper to get them off the tank itself. Just be careful as the buggers often drop them next to the silicone making removal difficult or too risky.

Ah but I thought I wanted the assassins to eat the nerites and stop them getting out of hand?

The egg patches look like a horse shoe patch of see through glue with little white spots on the aquarium glass and some on the filter housing, have seen about 8 patches of maybe 10-20 eggs so far?

Totally normal for nerites, they won’t hatch, just look unsightly.

So i picked up a 45x45x45cm cube tank off marketplace really cheap, like $80NZ (£40ish), it included the LED lights, an Aqua one Aquis 1200 external filter and a heater, I bought it to set up another tropical, but i changed my mind, I'm going to go for a skimmerless, natural sea water mini reef instead, water is easy for me to get as i'm 30 seconds from a very clean beach. So i bought some bio-sand, and now i'm on the search for some nice live rock theni'm good to go :D

Errr - so did a water change yesterday and seem to have accidentally reduced my snail population to 1 :D

Here's the overall setup - nothing fancy but remember, it's for my 6 year old son, hence the childlike nature of the tank - will admit, I added the groot.

Hi guys. Apologies if this has been asked to before. My son really wants me to get a fishtank for him. He's so much into marine life, and this is something he's always wanted. I have a bit of time on my hands, so want to get a tank for him. I'm not good at online shopping unfortunately and would prefer, going into the shops and seeing the tanks and then making a decision on what to buy. Which shop would you recommend please for fish tanks. Also there is the hot and cold water tank issue, which of the 2 is best and requires the least attention please?. Many thanks.

Our Royal Gramma didn’t make it :(

I didn’t realise I could be so upset by the loss of a fish.

The bristle works seem happy. They’re also really disturbing how they suddenly emerge from the rock in darkness.
