Your current Fish tank Setups!

Finally went & got a 200l tank, What would be a good external filter for a tank this size?

I think it all comes down to how much time you have to do maintenance. I hardly have any spare time so I went for high filtration in my 240 litre tank 2x Tetratec Ex 1200s. And I wouldn't go for any less personally. Especially if your having live plants or high fish count?

i would go for a fluval 305, its better to over filter than run one at max.

10X turnover isnt that much.

my reef 125L tank has almost 30x water turnover. tho this is not through filters but water movement.

though if the tank isnt planted i would aim for closer to 5x turnover.

Thanks, I was kind of thinking that it's better to over filter but I already had the 205.

Will let it run till after crimble then get a new one.

Sorted out the initial layout. Not happy with the symmetry (or lack of) with the slate so might have a play. Also might add some colour with rocks, but depends on what fish I eventually get as to whether I need to or not.

Happy with the custom re-spray at least :).

I think those pieces at the back standing up is what makes it looks strange. Looks too thought out :D

On a side note, I have completely defeated the green water, all by turning off one of my t5's. Plants arent growing as fast, but algae have dive bombed, and the cyano bacteria on the gravel is all breaking up.

On top of that, the shrimps are coming out to forage, and my oto's and pretty happy too, all by turning off one light!

There does seem to be a balance between lighting for plan growth and getting too much algae. I stopped CO2 dosing about a year ago and the algae started to come back with a vengeance, I ended up getting a lower output bulb and my algae has pretty much totally gone, just a little on the glass - plants aren't growing as fast but then they don't really need to, I'm pretty happy with the tank as it is (although i want to get a bigger one...

Bigger is better :) Im waiting to finish uni and get a proper job. Then i'm going to go CRAZY and get a marine setup.

I think when you go for high lights and CO2, you really have to keep on top of it. Once the algae start becomeing established, the balance can be easily tipped in their favour. In my case, my plants were starting to die, and some were even rotting (adding to the water problem).

I love rams, but they are a bit too big for my cherry shrimps, would probably gobble a few.

Does anyone have an intense light period in their tanks? or do you run them constant all day?

Noticed over the weekend my WC Blue Acara's may be pairing up, swimming around within a fish length of each other. Prior to this, they seemed to be having dominance issues. Fingers crossed.

Have ordered some more plants as well - hope these have enough time to get established before the gravel gets re-arranged!

Have a fluval edge with 4 Danio's and plastic plants, having a lot of problems with bright green algae in the tank, mostly on the gravel any tips on how to manage it, been doing 30% water changes every 4/5 days but it keeps coming back, lights are on for 4 hours.

Try some of the tips on here?

Haven't had any experience with algae myself but that seems like quite a good article, recommended on fishforums.net :)

Let's hope for some more plant growth over the next month or so. The bunch of Egeria Densa on the right of the tank has grown 3 inches in a week and I've been able to take cuttings and replant :D

Currently stocking 2 Flame Honeys, 1 Pearl Gourami (going into a larger tank in the new year), 3 Otocinclus and 6 Ember Tetras. Slightly overstocked but keep on top of it :D
