Your current Fish tank Setups!

Would it work if I connected a simple air stone to the end of the C02 pipe and just bury this under the gravel? Surely this is a more effective way of trapping the C02 in the aquarium, the gravel will help to break the larger bubbles down into smaller ones.

i did realise my tank was a bit OS'ed, so im gonna sell up.

However, I am still interested in all this, and it was bad, but it was a learning experience :) Have got my hands on an orca 450, and will get a nano reef setup over the next few months :D

I have been reading up LOADS and wont be making the same mistake again.

Hi,

Couple of questions:

We've got a 15L freshwater tank, with a few goldfish in. However, we're finding that the water's going cloudy/green after 3/4 days - how would we stop this happening? We've got a Fluval 1 filter, and have used the basic water treatment stuff. Could this be a problem with the water? I've read a few comments about London water, is there anything more we should be doing?

How often/how much should we be doing water changes?

Thanks :)

Is your tank a Baby biorb by any chance?

Like the others have said big fish in a very small tank, your best bet would be to get a bigger tank asap.
1stly for your fishes health
2ndly to stop you getting fed up of doing large water changes everyday.

Essentially,it should work, the problem with these things, is you will need some way of delaying the bubbles so they stay in the water as long as possible to maximise the transfer.

My unit has a little tray that is up against the glass, with a track for the bubbles. Look up CO2 diffuser.

Yeh I have been reading up about them but I really want to avoid spending too much. I have not seen anyone try and place the c02 pipe, from the generator, under the gravel. Instead people have built all sorts of elaborate devices when it seems to me that one can simply place an airstone on the end of the tubing and then place this airstone under the gravel. Surely the gravel will trap the c02.

It will to a certain extent delay the CO2, and will probably increase CO2 levels, just not as much as a unit with a diffuser.
You can pick up a generic diffuser to stick on your own CO2 system for a couple of quid from an aquatics shop. Might be worth a look if you get a decent home made system working well :)

I posted it on aquatics classifieds, didnt think of gumtree!

its an interpet 64l tank with stand. resun external filter, +fish + decor (large castle, 2 part ship, hydor ario 2 gyser and light). Sort of price do you rekon?

Id rather not just take the fish to my lfs as it wouldnt really be fair on them, however I may split them and do so with a few due to an overstock (first tank syndrome :P)

Got my orca 450 today too so could do with shifting it.

How reliable is the 1 watt per gallon rule? I have just upgraded my two tubes to Zoo med's Max plant growth even though they are the same wattage (15 Watts each) they emit a much brighter light which is optimised for the plants to have maximum photosynthesis. So I still have the same wattage but the tank is significantly brighter and the plants are picking up.

Some people also lose £££ worth of corals and fish when something goes wrong with their tanks, and things can go wrong really fast in a marine tank.

That happened to me about 4 years ago, there had been a power cut when I was at work, lost everything but a few mushrooms and bottons. I had built up a nice collection of sps and lps corals and my liferock was all but crawling around the tank. It even killed of the bulk of my brisleworms and as for my fish, well all floating and bloated. That tank got stripped down, I planned and bought all the stuff for a new setup. Never set it up as I had second thoughts as it if the floor could hold the weight and the lost of the first tank was a real blow.

Any how this is my much negleted fresh water tank.

Photo of my Trigon 190.

Had the black background fitted but it seemed to affect the Discus colours.

Will need to get better pics.

This is my video I took of my nano tank.

Stunning tank mate, corals and fish look very healthy.

I had a nightmare with mine today, the sump need dismantling and cleaning as it hasn't been cleaned in several years. Whilst cleaning it I managed to smash one of the sides  Got some glass cut and managed to fix it, and its currently filling with RO water.
