Your current Fish tank Setups!

I'm gutted. Finally finalised the design of my new 6 x 2 x 2 marine tank.

But need to sell my current 6 x 2 x 20" high :(. The market seems dead no offers or anything.

Looking at a new tank for the house, our LFS has a Juwel Rio 125 for 289 for tank and stand. Seems a decent price but is the tank and kit any good? I like the idea that everything is all in a box in the corner of the tank and is close to twice the size of my current tank.

Juwel make decent tanks so that's ok. 125 is still fairly small, but if that's what suits your needs, then go for it.

As a suggestion, look second hand on Gumtree, Aquarist Classifieds, UKAPS etc, as tanks really don't hold their value, and there's not much difference between a new and second hand tank apart from an hour of effort cleaning it!

I have a Rio 125 and love it, some people don't like the filter box in the corner and remove it but I quite like the idea and in my jungle its barely visible.

I also have a Fluval 306 running on mine for increased flow, plus pressurised Co2, these of course are not entirely necessary unless you want a heavily planted tank.

Needed some fresh air this morning after last nights antics. So i had a walk down to the local river and gathered up some stones.

Grabbed some vinegar (and some supplies for a fry up :p) from the shop.

Washed, boiled, tested with vinegar, washed and boiled again. (still boiling atm)... Didn't notice any fizzing or bubbles at all with the rocks. Curiosity got the better of me though so i have just gathered a few rocks from the garden and tested the vinegar on them and some of them fizzed like mad and some just showed the odd bubbles, so it must work.

........

Right then, so plants....

In my starter tank i have some live plants that are stuck in by the gravel in there. My new tank has sand in there so not as easy to get live plants to stay in one place. What do you guys do with this? Not all live plants come with roots. Not bought any for the new tank yet, but will be doing tomorrow.

When you say you are boiling rocks, please don't tell me you are literally putting them into a pan on the stove and boiling them?

If so I would STOP doing this - it is VERY dangerous. Rocks can have air pockets in them and if boiled can cause the rocks to explode. If they are still on now I would take them off immediately.

You should be disinfecting by pouring the boiling water over them.

This is my fish tank in the kitchen. Still not 100% happy with it, I think I might remove the moss balls as they are falling apart now.

Fluval 125 with half a dozen Neon Tetras and 2 Peppered Catfish. It's still in the early stages so these will be the only fish we have for a few more weeks. Nothing too high tech, the husband hasn't kept fish before so we have kept it simple. Compared to the 5ft marine tank I used to have this is a breeze!

190 :(

Wish i could fit a 350 in that corner, but no, i am moving house later this year and have big plans for a 300ltr tank:)

Same as we have, but in Beech. Couldn't fit the 350 in :( Currently having a bacteria bloom, and waiting to re-landscape ours after getting rid of our plec that had outgrown the tank and like moving any plants and rocks and things lol

hi i need a way to increase my pH slightly it is currently 6.4 or lower my test does not go any lower i have mostly gourami so low ph is good but below my test kit worries me

I wantz bubbles!

So looking to move things around inside the tank. Tropical fish and I guess now classed as mature - simply no work required on the tank any more with the exception of occasional water changes.
Would like a "wall of bubbles" across the back of the tank. Am I right in assuming that all I'd need would be:

Air stone - Length my decision, but would consider getting one large enough to run the entire length of the tank.
Air pump - Not sure of make to go for here, any suggestions? Also what kind of output should I be looking for?
Air line/tubing - so I can link the pump to the air stone
Non-return valve - to be added between pump and tubing for protection.

Is this all there is to it? Bury the air stone so it sits flush in the sand/stones, use tubing to connect to pump and away we go?
