Your driving...

True, true, the NEED to make progress is most likely when nature calls and in need of paying homage to the porcelain queen. ;)
lol.
seriously though mate i know exactly what you mean.
been there and done it myself.
at the time you really feel like you're getting to your destination so much quicker than all those dawdling fools that are eating your exhaust fumes....then you stop at a set of traffic lights and who pulls right up behind you again?
yup, Mr+Mrs dawdling fool themselves.

unless it's a long journey and you're on the naughty side of the limit for a LARGE percentage of it, the gains simply aren't worth it.
don't get me wrong, many people drive fast because they like to drive fast and that's something different altogether, just don't expect it to make any real difference to shortening your journey time that's all.

You should do a track day mate - will safely raise your confidence, and find the limits of the car in a day.

I was thinking the same thing. That novice day would have been perfect actually, but I wouldn't have been happy doing it on current tyres and brakes.

Parking. I've always avoided parking in tricky spaces, chickening out and driving 'round to find an easier one; I need to bite the bullet and learn how to reverse park and parallel park into tight spaces.

Edit: That's what needs improving most; naturally everything else could be improved too.

My observation skills. When in traffic, I tend to let my concentration waver. when going fast, I need to practice reading the road a bit more too...

Wait let me get this correct.

You put your car into neutral to take corners

My friend corners with his foot on the clutch, so halfway as bad

Why would anyone even contemplate doing this? I cant think how anyone would have even gotten into the habbit.

Thats twice as bad IME :p

If his foot comes off the clutch mid corner(like basicly just right of the clutch so the clutch comes straight out) it will jerk the car a bit and then shift the cars weight around and unbalence the car and then you will have the back end come out and you will visit the nearest tree :p :(

Its quite common according to my old driving instructor, known as coasting (fairly obviously). People get scared of doing too many things, e.g. cornering and changing gears, so they coast! Madness.

I dont get it, when i was learning i was always taught that you are to change down a gear in anticipation of having to slow for the corner, reduce your speed to match the corner, then turn the wheel and drive round it normally. Then when exited from it you can change back up to suit.

Makes perfect sense, where does coasting even come into it? I can understand coasting too much when coming to a stop, i am probably guilty of it, or even coasting for a bit when changing gear if you cant change very fast yet, but simply going round a corner seems a weird concept to have gotten into the habbit of.

Speaking of weird habbits, one of my mates used to lift his whole leg when using the pedals :D (rather than pivoting on his heel)

What part of your driving needs improvement?

My clutch/gear control.

I broke it. :o Going from 5th into 1st accidently does however create an impressive cloud of smoke and makes any person driving up your arse, back off, very quickly. (The gearstick is very wobbily, most of the time I was playing "Guess what Gear this is?"). I dunno if thats what actually buggered it, its been making "Grrrnnkkkkknkkknkk" noises every time I put it in 2nd for ages now. Very irritating. Turning up the radio and ignoring it probably wasn't a good idea either.

Oh well. Time for a new car, its not really worth fixing. :)

Getting into a space forward, just cant do it without mounting the pavement or being a couple of feet away from the kerb.

Reverse, nps. Get into a space not much more than a few feet longer than my car.

Patience with road users who drive god awfully slow, dangerously infact.

the only people "slow" drivers put in any kind of danger are the ones without any patience or anger management skills.
do you lose your temper when stuck behind a driving school car, as some (typically pensioners) i have seen drive at similar speeds?

Going into parking spaces forwards.

Backwards no problem, easy as. Go in front first, always misjudge things :)

I do get annoyed with people easily too but I'm not that bad..

First time I ever drove in to a parking space nose first was at the very end of my driving test  Nearly freaked me out when the examiner asked me to do that :D

Strangely enough though my reverse parking is far superior to my front first parking too.
