Your experience with OLED burn-in

Some people have always bought a new TV every year, some people have to have the latest and greatest. The picture quality between older and new OLEDs is not massive, there is no huge change and a massive wow factor. The only real reason to upgrade is if you need or want the new technology support like HDMI 2.1 but even that is patchy right now.

I've got a LG 55" B7* from 2017 iirc, my partner bought a 65" last year and imo it looks quite a significant upgrade to my PQ tbh, though is it the case that the newer LG models dropped HDR support in favour of Dolby Vision? As my model does both.

* I did have to have the panel replaced in 2019 (foc) as mine was in the batch that suffered the colour calibration deterioration and had a square in the middle that had a noticeably different hue.

My LG BX does HDR / Dolby Vision?

Dolby Vision is forces in NF/Disney Plus though

That's my 55" B7 getting collected on the 4th of May for a panel replacement, John Lewis wanted nothing to do with as per their updated screen burn policy, a lot of back and forth with LG saw a reduced repair fee of £100.

I standby OLED in that the picture is simply much more impressive than any alternative I have looked at (subjective), just really disappointing JL would not honour a repair when there was no mention of screen burn as a caveat in their warranty back in when I bought the B7 back in 2017. My Panasonic GT 50 is still going strong 9 years later without a hint of image retention and I remember all the forum chat about how bad it was on a plasma.... the image is now looking pretty dull though.

runs pixel refresh

if that fails, just use the TV and enjoy it or buy a new one, the C8 is about at that age now where a upgrade is not a bad choice. I wouldn't expect to go longer than 3 years on average if you're gonna be using the TV with fixed elements like scoreboards
3 years for a TV of that price, is want a £200 one to last longer.

No that’s what I thought till I realised that the wife spends an age deciding what she wants to watch and the Netflix logo happens to be in that spot when searching for something to watch
Ahh, I see. I'm sure there's a technical reason, but it seems that the red always seems to be the ones that goes first.

My B7 was collected for the panel replacement this morning and all I can say is I hope LG take responsibility for the packaging prior to the courier returning it.... the company they used to collect "panther" did not fill me with confidence, they threw some bubble wrap / foam padding over the back but pretty much left the screen exposed prior to stuffing it in the case they brought. I am hoping they are quicker then the 2 week potential as the 42" LG LCD now sitting on the living room wall looks completely wrong, from image quality to size.

If they're changing the screen does it matter?

Nah not at all but would a 3rd party courier company know it’s a screen replacement?

Again doesn’t matter, my point is just that I hope LG fully pack / protect the TV prior to the courier company collecting and returning.

My dad has a B7. Got burn in from the good morning Britain logo (mum never turning it off)
Got the screen replaced by LG last month for £150 I think it was, the new screen is pretty much 100% uniform apart from 1 very light band on the left hand side that can only be seen if you squint at the screen on a 5% grey background.

I told them to be careful specially as the B7 has very little protection against burn in, but didn't listen, going forward they are being very careful what they are leaving on for long periods of time.

I have an LG C7. Bought mid 2018 and have got absolutely no burn in. Surprising as its the main TV in the house and mainly used for gaming and watching sport, so lots of static pictures of scores, timers and the like. Guess I got lucky, however screen goes completely black occasionally when playing xbox, usually have to turn it off then back on.

Even though they are pricey I think it lasting three years is fair. I'd be ok with replacing it end of this year, would get another one. Despite its age it knocks spots off the 2021 QLED frame in the living room.

Fair? jesus. TVs should be lasting a LOT longer than 3 years at those prices.
