Your Favorite Band/Singer at the moment?

They're emo with massive, gargantuan post-rock sections. They're like Godspeed would be if they could ever muster any emotion other than pained melancholy. They're subtle and mellow sometimes, and then they come crashing in with a sonic assault to rival the heaviest of the heavy. They're intense. Go get some.
That's what screamo is/was. That's what I'd call it anyway. I hate how the music media is into all this mislabelling buisness now. Suddenly an extinct genre became a buzz word and a word to describe things like haircuts and stuff. Emos dead, surely music journalists are aware of this?

Anyway, point really is CTTS > Pg.99 > CoC.

CoC is still good though.

Clearly not true, because Saetia were labelled as screamo in the 90s and they certainly didn't have epic post-rock sections.
But Far are labelled as emo and so are bands like Sunny Day Real Estate and The Get Up Kids. My point being that all the bands don't have to sound the same to be in the same genre.

I'm not going to get into an argument about what bands are in what genres - to me, City of Caterpillar sound like emo bands in the mid 90s mixed with post-rock bands from the late 90s/early 00s.

If we carry on down this road then someone's going to mention post-screamo at some point, and that's not a place I want to be ;)

Agalloch...to those who might be interested they're an EPIC mix of Scandinavian-style black/death metal with prog rock and post rock sections...I know that sounds like Opeth but believe me they're a totally different sound, influenced more by bands like Katatonia and Ulver, I'd say.

Check them out at:

Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

Hmm.. I've been listening to all sorts this last week at work, but I guess my current favourite is Jewel. Absolutely loving her album "Pieces of You" and the title track in particular is good. Such a solid example of songwriting, strong lyrically, meaningful and poignant.

Well to me, I'd class bands like City of Caterpillar, Pg. 99, Circle Takes the Square, Neil Perry and Saetia as screamo bands. As far as I'm concerned, emos been dead for a long time.
