YOUR Game of the Year 2023

Hurry up with 2024 already if Starfield is the second best thing we've had. I nominate The Day Before as they've simply tried to get away with a very low standard. Who can blame them if Starfield is now upper tier.
On the plus side, 2023 has got "Nothing at all" sat in 3rd at the moment, in the 2021 thread, Nothing at all came top and in the 2022 thread , Nothing at all came 2nd. So at least thats trending downward meaning that at least more people are finding SOMETHING that they liked this year compared to recent years :)

The beat-em-up genre is possibly the only genre I can think of, which I've never gelled with , I cant think of any beat-em-up (at least not in the traditional sense of the 1 character on each side of the screen sort of thing) in 4 decades of gaming that I've actually enjoyed. SF and Mortal Kombat certainly do have an avid userbase though and some of the death moves are quite the eyeball fest :)

IMO, you'll never enjoy fighting games on a deeper level without getting into them properly and understanding the systems, movement, framedata, punishment concepts etc. and then trying to play vs. real people applying all of that. The mental stack is insane sometimes but so is the satisfaction of getting better.

Tekken, for example, makes virtually every soulslike seem like child's play in comparison and so does high-level SF to be fair but Tekken is more complex.

On a casual level, I find they're fun to faceroll buttons for a while but I would get bored with them pretty quickly myself that way. It's a competitive genre through and through.

I see SF6 as an easy GOTY for a FG enthusiast, was pretty close for me as well, it's just not my main fighter so I opted for something else.

Anyways, my GOTY 2024 is already sorted, don't even have to wait till the end of the year to decide, no matter what comes out:P

Oh yes, I agree. When I watch some really good beat em up players their dexterity and skills are amazing.

You must remember The Way Of The Exploding Fist then? That was the last fighting game that I sunk the hours into, albeit 38 years ago!

SF2 on the SNES wasn’t too bad either TBH.

Whilst I didn't play WOTEF, I did buy the sequel, FIST 2. It was the first video game I got my hands on and I played it on the Speccy 128k. Possibly followed that up with Renegade and others but it's all a bit of a blur now.

For 2023??? We have to play a game for that then... Here we go

Forspoken - Broken on release
Dead Space - Broken on release
Company of Heroes 3 - Not even a full game on release
KSP2 - Buggy mess
RE4 - Doesn't count, it's a remaster
TLOU pt1 - Doesn't count, it's a remaster
Dead Island 2 - Broken on release
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor - Broken on release (and still broken?)
Redfall - Broken
SF6 - unfinished
Diablo 4 - Absolute joke of a release
BG3 - Act 3 totally unfinished on 'full release'
AC6 - Ooooo, a good one! Maybe this will be my game of the year?
Starfield - An absolute joke
AC Mirage - Broken
Cities: Skylines 2 - Beyond broken, literally unplayable for most on release

I can keep going, but as you can see from the games I was excited for, I can't really pick as I only have 1 option.

Gaming is just an absolute cess pit of **** these days, what a shame.
