I've only played the following lot:

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (only played SP, first few lvls, snow mobile level was my fave)
Batman: Arkham Asylum (completed, got bored after every 30min sessions of it)
Borderlands (great fun on co-op with friends using mic, SP is too lonely!)
Dragon Age: Origins (definitely my fave out of the lot)
Need For Speed: Shift (good game, shame im not too much of a racing fan)
ARMA II (mehh standard tactical shooter, didnt bother playing after first stage)

out of them my vote is on Dragon Age, Managed to complete it once already with human warrior, doing 2nd run on elf rogue. Well worth playing it over and over with different spec'd characters. The toolset and user created mods, items, expansions is going to expand even more time I'll enjoy this game, definitely is my vote for game of the year.

I can't choose. I'm thinking Dragon Age: Origins and Batman: Arkham Asylum. L4D2 i love but i can't bring myself to consider it as a game of the year.

DA:O & B:AA are both worthy winners imo...

left for dead 2 is my game of the year but my opinion of it might of been different had i not been completely new to the series. its a bit strange releasing a a sequel in less than a year but i didn't play the first on and perhaps valve are very focused workers.

although, i haven't played dragon age yet. and knowing the developers track record i suspect it may be very very good.

This can be the nomination thread.

The top six games will be carried through to the finals.

If there are enough people that want a game that isn't in the list, post what it is and if there are enough votes for it, it can be in the final vote.

I have been playing a lot of borderlands and a lot of L4D2, for me it’s between the two... My winner has to be l4d2, although very clever with weapons and scenery, borderlands is by far not a polished enough game to take the vote. If they fix the following then it’s a close call:

1) Difference in mouse speed in menu and in game.
2) Horrendous multiplayer issues whereby you have to be forwarding ports and shenanigans to get a game going.
3) The inability to skip the movie sequences when firing up the game.
4) Dedicated servers, or lack of.

If they fixed these small niggles then I would probably be rating borderlands no1 and l4d2 in at no2.

Well, this is more exciting than many a sports game ;) At the time of writing Dragon Age has moved to a huge 10 vote lead, at this rate we will need a recount.

Personally, Dragon Age is the game I voted for, so woot.

If you want any other games than Torchlight sould have been included, although it wouldn't have changed my vote.

I don't get why that's disturbing? It's a computer game!

I found it rather good fun, one of the best missions in fact.

I too enjoyed it, but I can see why it might disturb some people.

However, I don't think those people should complain about it, seeing as they clearly accepted the disclaimers and chose to play the level.

I also enjoyed the mission, but I was thinking to myself whilst playing it "if this hapenned in real life it would be a first class ticket to hell!"

Sadly this probably could happen in real life, maybe something like it already has! :(

Interesting to see all the love for Arkham Asylum, I'd kind of dismissed it as being some sort of cash-in on TDK like 99% of games based on movie franchises. May have to give it a look sometime in the next couple of years.
