so far, I'd have to go with Machinarium.

It's a very short game, but the quality of art, design, gameplay and polish is just fantastic.

Runners up would be PvZ (definitely best casual game this year) and Trine.

Oooo was Fallout 3 a 2009 release? That makes me think... Fallout 3 was a fantastic game...

EDIT: Just checked wikipedia and the original release was 2008 - adds ons have continued into 2009. So I'm sticking with Modern Warfare 2 :p

Ok, so far we have:

1st - Dragon Age: Origins with 18 votes

2nd - Left 4 Dead 2 with 15 votes

3rd - Batman Arkham Asylum with 13 votes

In joint 4th:

- Modern Warfare 2 with 11 votes

- Borderlands with 11 votes
 
I'm also thinking, perhaps this could just be a nomination thread and then in a few weeks, a new thread could be created with a poll listing the top five games or somat? :)
 
To be pedantic my count up has it:-

1st - Dragon Age: Origins with 16 votes

2nd - Left 4 Dead 2 with 14 votes

In joint 3rd:

No change of positions though....:)

I am guessing you are counting Tombstones vote of "Looking back over the year, I've enjoyed Aion and enjoyed Dragon Age." as a DAO

I'm not sure, but I will double check... Fairly sure mine were accurate though. ;)

Like I said, I was just counting the first game that people mentioned if they mentioned more than one.
 
So did you count Tombstones as Aion or Dragon Age origins? As if it you did count it as Aion, you are more than one out for sure. ;)

the hunter before its went downhill.

apart from that pretty crap this year sent most time playing cod 4 still. mw2 wont have a long life without dedis.
