Picasso IV (in a towered Amiga 1200)

Stock S3 widget that came with the PC

Added a VooDoo 1 (Orchid Righteous 3D). Quake was AWESOME!

VooDoo Banshee (Mistake, yes, I know. Half of the Glide API was broken)

Canopus Pure 3D II (Less broken than the Banshees 'VooDoo 1.5' but still silly)

nVidia GeForce 2 Pro (finally able to play new games again)

VooDoo 5500 64MB (Dropped in to a bodged-together PC to see what would happen. Not a lot as it happens, but if you know what this card is you'll know why I was so interested. Replaced with the Orchid card for a retro gaming box (still in use!))

ATI Rage (saving for a proper card)

GeForce 4Ti of some description (donated to me out of pity)

Radeon 9800 Pro

Radeon X800

Radeon 1800XT

Radeon 3870

Radeon 4870 (overclocked)

Have to say it's quite nice to hear so many people had a 3dfx card and still have a soft spot for them :)

Some ati rage 16mb
Fx5600 < this card was utterly crap.
7600gt agp ddr2,
4850 now but once payment has come through i will ship it,
My next card will be a power colour 4870 @ 770/3600, but has a good cooler so i will overclock it more, then will hold off for the gtx3xx and ati 5 series.

Voodoo1
Voodoo2 12MB
2 x Voodoo2
Voodoo2 & TNT 1
Voodoo3
Geforce1 DDR
Geforce3 ti500
9700PRO
6800GT

8800GTS 640MB
8800GT 512MB
9800GTX (sent it back immediately as no better than GT)
ATI4870HD 512MB

  • Matrox Mystique 4mb. [I still use this card for setting up new machines etc]
  • Voodoo 1
  • Voodoo 2
  • Gf 2Mx
  • Gf 4200
  • ATI all in wonder 9700. [Broke after 13 months]
  • Gf 6600gt
  • ATI 4850

Quite an economic route. I stopped playing PC games for a couple of years between the 6600gt and last year. Apart from the 9700, I dont think I've spent >£125 on a card. The ATI was a mistake.

Erm, lets see if I can remember.

  • Voodoo3
  • S3 thingy - Not my choice
  • GeForce4 Ti 4600 - Good card, lasted well (also my only Nvidia card, probably the last too :p)
  • 9800 Pro (flashed to XT then oc'd) - Solid work horse, lasted ~3½ years before being retired
  • X850 Pro - Second hand stop gap
  • 2900XT - OK
  • 4870X2 - :D

1: I think it was some generic on-board 1mb thing back in 1996
2: s-virge 4mb
3: 3DFX Voodoo 3 16mb
4: realtek nvidia geforce 4ti 4800 128mb
-big gap from gaming-
5: nvidia 8500gt(came in pre built system)
6: 2 XFX Nvidia 8800gtx SLi

Onboard (tower) -> Onboard (laptop) -> 4870X2 2GB (soon)

Yeah, I've only had one, really old eMachines tower that I got when I was 5, cost 2 grand I think, but that soon got outdated. Got a Packard Bell W3301 laptop 5-6 years ago, for £800. It was top of the line then, and it's still going strong now, after a 2 gig ram update, but just recently the v, x, Ctrl, Alt, Del, Numpad 3 and 6 keys have stopped working...

...So I'm gonna get an i7 rig.

bit murky the early bit but i think it was

1mb pci cyrix thingy, played swiv 3d :D
8mb onboard sis 6326 pchips mobo, carmageddon era
voodoo 1
voodoo 3
geforce 2 ti 64mb
geforce 4 ti 420 64mb (part xchanged this for a vapochill hence the downgrade)
geforce 2 mx400 or something, played gta vice city just
geforce 3 ti200, definetly had some of these but not sure if i actually used 1 :o

and the ones i defo remember

6600gt 128mb agp
7600gt 256mb pci-e
7950gt 256mb pci-e
8800gt 512mb - current card

I may have forgotten what GPUs I have owned in the past but here goes:

1. Voodoo 3 GFX card with 4MB RAM (this PWNED when playing FIFA 99)
2. S3 (couldnt remember the full model of it)
3. GeForce MX4000
4. Tyan Tachyon Radeon 9500
5. nVidia GeForce 6600LE (worst card I have ever purchased and stopped me from getting any future nVidia cards)
6. ATI Radeon 9600XT (this card PWNED like you wouldnt believe for what it could do)
7. 2x Sapphire Radeon X1300XTs
8. 2x Sapphire Radeon HD2600XTs
9. XFX ATI Radeon 4870 X2 (BEST. CARD. EVER.)

So there you have it. Thats quite a history if you ask me.

S3 Virge DX 4MB
Matrox Milennium 8MB (great 2D IQ but very bad 3D support)
3dfx Voodoo 2 8MB (couldn't afford the 12MB model)
3dfx Banshee (crap card)
3dfx Voodoo 3 (great with Glide, so-so with DX)
3dfx Voodoo 5 5500 (Oh well, what can I say, I knew it was slower than the competition but I still bought one)
Nvidia GF4 MX400 (hmmm, no comment)
Nvidia GF4 Ti4400 (great card, was a very good overclocker)
Nvidia 6800NU (unlocked the pipes with Rivatuner and overclocking was great)
Nvidia 7800GT
Nvidia 8800GTS 640MB (very good card, clocked to 648/2000 from 500/1600, I had this card for >18 months and still have it ready to sell)
Nvidia GTX280 (Wow, stock clocks are 700/1400/2300, so much faster than the 8800GTS and uses less power at idle)
