I am almost there.. It's a marathon, not a sprint.

Thought it was worth bumping this, given that it's been a year and cards are moving on so quick these days... don't ask me what brands each of these were. I just know I had a Powercolor Radeon, and a mix of XFX, BFG, MSI, EVGA and stock GeForce cards. I have tried to get these as close to accurate as possible but I went through a phase of updating like a lunatic :p

  • Radeon 8800GT
  • Radeon 9000 Pro
  • Radeon 9800 XT
  • Radeon X1800
  • Radeon X800 XT
  • GeForce 6800 Ultra
  • GeForce 7900 GTX
  • GeForce 8800 Ultra
  • GeForce 9800 GTX
  • GeForce GTX 580 SLI
  • GeForce GTX 680 SLI

s3 savage 4
GeForce 2 mx
GeForce 4 mx (very briefly)
GeForce 4 ti 4200
GeForce 7800 gtx with 2nd added later for sli
GeForce 8800GT sli
GeForce 650m
GeForce 780 gtx
GeForce 1070 GTX

Jesus, I look like a fan boy, I swear its co-incidence, just seems like each time I've bought one the NVidia card has most suited my needs, I think... now I'm second guessing myself :p

First Card was a TNT 64mb
G force2 MX 64mb i think
Ti 4200

then i got my own PC which im sure i bought a 256mb fx5600
Ati 9600 pro
Ati 9800 pro (still to this day the best card ive owned)
Nvidia 6600gt
Nvidia XFX 7950gt which was passively cooled another great card
then i bought a AMD6850 when i got back into PC gaming and then bought another to crossfire about 2months later.
And now Im with my trusty old r9 280

There Is probably a card or two ive missed.

Hmmmm 20 years!

STB Trio32 (P75)
ATi xPert@Play (P233)
" " + Galaxy Voodoo2
Diamond Viper II Z200 (Athlon 650) - A card that promised much but never delivered or enabled most of it.
Radeon 8500 (Athlon 2700XP+) Another card with a farcical launch, I waited months for this card IIRC.
Radeon 9800 Pro (Athlon 2700XP+) - this card was still running a year ago.
Radeon X1900XT (Core 2 Duo E6600)
2 x Radeon HD3870 - Well they were <£150 each
Radeon HD5870 (Core 2/ Core i7 2600k) - Awesome card
VTX3D Radeon 7870 Black Edition - Hard to resist with the ridiculous offer that included the free game cards for both high end and mid range cards. However the marketing bod at AMD who decided to call the cut Tahiti a 7870 needs shooting.
Geforce 1070 - Shocking !

I think one of the earliest I had was an s3 virge? or something like that,i went thru most of the voodoo cards much to the wifes dismay, seemed to be buying a new card every six months.

Integrated gfx chip
Voodoo something or other
FX 5600

R9 390 Msi Twin Frozr, lovely design
Turon something or other in cheap lappy
Fury X Sapphire
RX 480 Nitro OC Sapphire (2nd PC)
GTX 1080 EVGA

thats all I can remember for now there may be others but its lost in the mists of time.

Currently in the market for an upgrade but no way I'm spending £250+ for a mid range card.

Yeah tell me about it, back in the hey day 8800gt amd 4850 and amd 5850 were sweet spots for bang for buck as far as a i know but they were like high end cards or upper midrange with enough power to play on ultra, they costed around £200-250, but now you had to buy a 6950 to match the performance of the 4850 and 5850 and costed around the same and same with the 7950 , same with today a rx 480 as well its like a 7850 for the price of 5850 4850, 6950 7950 r 290 r 390(okay the r versions cost more but its in the same performance bracket).

I hope you get what i am saying were paying more for less 4850 5850 were better value to get the same its 6950 and 7950 r290 r390 but not the rx480 thats like a 4770 if you think about it.

Prices have gone up i miss those days.

For now i will cling onto my gtx 970 as it is still a capable card for what i play and wait till prices come down hopefully under 250 as that is my budget limit.

prices have gone up, but I think our expectations have gone up as well, if you want to play any game at 1080p with med to high settings, 30-60 fps you can get away with £100 RX460 or even a 750ti in most cases. There is def a bigger gap between "playable" and the top end though, and as such we've all pushed our definitions of playable further up the tree.

I bet if you dig out an old late 90s CRT you'd max it out with a sub £100 card in any game at any settings. But that's not playable anymore :P

My history is as follows.

8600 XFX Gts
Nvidia Gainward 295
Nvidia Gainward 295 SLI (These where brilliant at the time, each one dual chip)
GTX 460
GTX 460 SLI
R9 290 Sapphire
R9 290x
R9 290x Crossfire (Never again will I touch AMD cards)
980ti MSI
980ti MSI SLI

I did have a card before the 8600Gts but I can't remember what it was, although I know it was a BFG brand. Some of the others I am not sure what the brands were.
