From what I recall -
Vodoo 3 (PCI version!)
Radeon 9600 512mb (wish I had the 9800, classic!)
Nvidia 6800 LE (Unlocked/overclocked, can't recall exactly)
Radeon X1950 XT (AGP version - died)
Nvidia 8800 GT (A true classic!)
Nvidia GTX 480 (Fitted with a Zalman aftermarket cooler- hot mama!)
Nvidia GTX 670
- Nvidia GTX 670 SLI (Upgraded to 1440p)
Nvidia GTX 970 (custom water cooled)
Nvida 1080 ti (pre-ordered, will be custom water cooled. At 4k now so need to go up a level again)
So not too many really. I switched early on but have been steadfastly Nvidia the last few generations. I try to bridge a couple of generations where possible as well when upgrading.
fx5200 (cries) - i only wanted a card that could play gta3 and it couldn't. this was before i knew anything about hardware. since then i've learnt a little but am a bit behind the times due to a lack of funds.
9800 (flashed to pro - now we're talking. )
6800gt (liked the raw power but drivers at the time were terrible. it had to go)
x800gto (little stop gap)
x800pro @ xt (bought 2nd hand -died on me after 2 months)
7600gs (not a bad little card- another stop gap)
x1950pro current card - old hat for you lot but does me proud - i'm only a casual gamer.
since then...
3850
4850
8800GTS 512mb
6870
intel onboard for a few months
6850 (current)
Interesting to see that most people have a fairly stereotyped/pigeon hole upgrade cycle:
-Some upgrade infrequently, maybe every 2-3 generations and very rarely make unforced 'sideways' moves
-Some upgrade steadily nearly every generation
-Some are constantly chopping and changing, making sideways and sometimes even backwards moved. I imagine most of these people are wheeler-dealers in the secondhand market.
I probably fall into the middle bracket now although it used to be every 2 generations:
-Cirrus Logic 5446 2meg
-Guillemot Maxi Gamer Voodoo Graphics 4meg
-3dfx Voodoo3 2000 AGP 16meg
-Hercules Prophet Geforce 2 MX 32meg (faster ram than reference)
-3dfx Voodoo3 3000 PCI 16meg (ran alongside the above for dual monitor support)
-Abit Siluro Geforce 4 Ti4200 64meg (faster memory than 128meg version)
-Hercules Radeon 9800SE AIW (softmodded to Pro)
-XFX Geforce 6800 AGP 128meg (softmodded to 6vp)
-Leadtek Geforce 6800GT PCI-E 256meg (still in my backup rig)
-MSI Geforce 7900GTO 512meg
-BFG 8800GTS OC 320meg
To be frank I don't think I've been blown away by anything since the first two 3dfx cards.
