your mpg figures pls :)

I was filling up next to a bloke with a V12 Roller & he had left the engine running
while he filled up, after a while the checkout bloke came out & told him to turn it off as he kept gaining on the pump :p
 
Mine...

BMW 320d (new) 51mpg (!)
Volvo V50 2.0d 40-42mpg (wifes' wagon)
RX-8 231 (sadly sold) 20-22mpg

For a weekly commute that's quite a saving over rexy - but nowhere near as fun :cool: !

56mph isn't "the" optimum speed for economy, so that argument doesn't really have merit :p

Specific economy is going to be down to the individual car, gearing and engine, but at 60+ most cars are going to be happily in top gear :)

Well I posted above you


same engine (but my vRS is a slightly larger car..maybe a bit heavier as well) and same figures almost round town..but yours seems way off on the motorway

I just put the cruise on set it to 75 and away I go

like I said on a trip up to aberdeen a couple of weeks ago got 40mpg...on a long motorway trip I would get 430-450 miles from a tank

My old man had an omega v6 as a company motor that was most economical at 83 or something on cruise control, as with auto box this was right at the peak of the torque curve.

For the record, my 'Vette was more economical at 80 than it was at 65, for example, in reference to the above :)
 
BMW 535i - 12mpg if Im careful :( Have had it as low as 9mpg
BMW 328i - 29mpg on mostly motorway during the week :)
VW Passat Diesel - only 39.9mpg (mostly motorway)

My god.

There is something wrong with that car.
Is it an E39 or an E34?

I've had the E34's M30 3.5L S6 in a 735i and I never got less than 15mpg
If it's an E39 with the M52 engine, I had a 540i and never got less than 18mpg

Torque peak or not, it doesn't make it absolutely more economical. Unless the engine is seriously underpowered at lower RPM, lower speeds in higher gears are likely to return better economy. My car at about 40MPH in 5th (1600RPM) is about as economical as it gets.
