Your next car?

Hi there

Well I am sticking with the Mustang for the next 12-18 months, just looking forward to some warmer/dryer weather so I can put the power down.

Hence why my next car will have to be either 4WD/AWD or have a very good TC/DSC/ASC system or whatever they are called.

At the moment favourite is a 2001-2003 Porka 911 (996) Turbo as since the 997 came out they have plummeted in price. Can pick up a low mileage Turbo now for around 45k, give it another 12 months and things will improve, might even find an 03/04 X50 model for sub 50k. :)

Fact is I aint dreaming as if I wanted I could sell the Mustang now as I have enough money saved go buy the 911, but I aint bored of the Mustang yet. :)

My other preferable option is a Gallardo but they are not depreciating that quick at the moment, fingers crossed they start dropping, but if not then one will have to wait as I refuse to spend more than 50k on a car. Or maybe I just keep the Mustang, BMW and get a house. :D

I think you need another purchasing person at OCuk ;)

Agreed Fox, but I personally like to think Im a man of my word

Transplant an E60 M5 engine in to your BMW, supercharge, and have more fun than ever! :D

Scrap that, just merge the two in to a BMustangW.
Either that or a Mercedes Kompressor engine.... and supercharge it. ;)

So why buy one?

I don't plan on. however, if i decide that I'm not willing to pay £2000 to insure an elise and a 7, if i'm realistic will probably be too impractical then i'm quite limited in what else is on offer. MX-5 would be perfect but I dislike the way it looks. S2000 and RX-7 are too expensive to insure. 200sx is ugly.

which doesn't leave many £8k rwd coupe/rag tops of much interest.

Which, by my powers of magical deduction leaves me with hot hatches to have a laugh in.

But it's all irrelevant as i fully plan on selling a kidney to insure an elise ;)

Next carfor the wife and I will hopefully be a Z4 2.5 of some description, which we are hoping to get this year.

Following that we'll replace the s60 with something like an XC90, a Cherokee or a Range Rover. I still want an XJR but I think that will be vetoed by the other half.

S1 Elises are pretty cheap to insure. You've just gotta hope you don't get HGF as then you'll be kicking yourself as to why you didn't get an MX5 or something :p

If nobody had dreams of where they want to be in 5 years, nobody would get anywhere. Obviously most people will miss their targets but others will hit them spot on.

Personally I'd quite fancy a 'yota engined Elise or one of those new Sigma engined Caterhams. I have a fetish for lightweight/elegant engineering :/

please divulge the secret as insurers seem to hate me!

HGF isn't something that worries me really. sure it'll happen at some point but the costs can be limited.
