Your top 5 films (not judging, looking for options)

It's as I expected, not many films from the last 10 years, Marvel has killed the film industry.

I mean, you didn't have to make up some survey to make that statement lol.

There is more to it than that imo.

But it's late, Ive had a few and I can't be arsed to write my essay/wall of text on it.

People will naturally be drawn to films they seen between the age of 12 to 24, there is a scientific term for it.

Come back in 15 years and ask again and you will get a ton of answers with Iron Man, End Game, etc.

I find it very difficult to pick just a few as it can often change, but for now at least,
these are the ones that spring to mind.

Pulp Fiction
Batman Begins
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
Star Wars: A New Hope
The Terminator

In no particular order:

The Untouchables (1987)
Robocop (1987)
Star Wars (the original trilogy) (1977 - 1983)
Dirty Harry (1971)
Rocky (1975)

Loads of other films I so want to mention but will refrain for the purpose of this thread!

I love a bit of 80's-90's Sci-fi so in no particular order -

Terminator 2
Aliens
Predator
Robocop

Then for the last one, an bit of an oddity.

The Watchmen - theatrical version

This film was the first one I'd watched in probably over decade where, despite being over 3 hours long, I genuinely had no idea where the time went because I was so engrossed by what I was watching. I've only a few films like that, where I lose myself so much in what I'm seeing that time just disappears, with the new Dune film also being amongst that limited group.

I only wanted 5 because I didn't want huge lists on the thread and to make people be a bit critical when choosing.

Thanks for all the input so far chaps, I have a few choices for my weeks viewings.

While I agree i also disagree. I think all of the films on my list I did see roughly in that 12-24 age range but most of them weren't freshly released and were 1 or more decades old by that point.

So it's only if your watching only hollywood blockbuster dribble when you're 12-24 that you would expect a list to consist of them. I would hope the younger generations are still watching proper movies aswell.

Karate Kid (1984)
Short Circuit 2 (1988)
Sleepless in Seattle (1993) / You've Got Mail (1998)
Die Hard (1988)
The Final Countdown (1980)

Hackers (1995)
Matrix (1999)
WarGames (1983)
Antitrust (2001)
Swordfish (2001)
Source Code (2011)
Pushing Tin (1999)
Speed (1994)
Under Siege (1992)

Flight of the Navigator (1986)
The Mighty Ducks (1992)
The Last Starfighter (1984)
Edge of Tomorrow (2014)

Note that I said “films you watched when you are 12-24” not “films that came out when you were 12-24”.

top 5 for me

Avatar
Terminator 2
forrest gump
ghostbusters 2
planes trains and automobiles

but im confused because i could easily swap them for movies that i remember after making such a list.
like back to the future, casino, batman dark knight, rocky movies, fantastic mr fox by wez anderson, aliens, lost boys, the matrix, predator

This is an off the top of head list, so mainly stuff that's fresh in my head or I've watched to death.

Blade Runner
Before Midnight (only if you've seen the previous 2 in the series)
Interstellar
The Dark Knight
Terminator 2

If I could choose more I'd have
The Godfather
Alien
Gladiator
Fight Club
Seven
Cloud Atlas
Boyhood
Requiem for a Dream
The Matrix

yeah that wasn't the part I disagreed with.

The idea that in 15 years people will be populating their top 5 lists with Marvel movies was. Those same people will still watch movies from other decades like the people forming their top 5 lists now did. So I would imagine that the lists would still be marvel free in 15 years time.

Matrix
Terminator 2
Star Trek First Contact
John Wick
Fight Club

The Rock
V
Hunt for Red October
Crank
Italian Job
Arctic

I personally would like this to become a thing in these sorts of threads. That is putting all your "honourable mentions" and so forth in spoiler tags. These threads always descend into just lists of all the films you happen to like, rather than boiling down to a firm number.
